September is Su***de Prevention Month. Su***de is now the third leading cause of death for ages 10-24 in Tennessee.

Join the conversation and reach out to those who have been affected by su***de, raise awareness, and connect those struggling with suicidal thoughts to professional counselors and services that can help.

If you or someone you love is struggling, the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline is a free resource available 24/7 for those who are in a suicidal crisis.

February 26th through March 1st has been designated by The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) as National Eating Disorders Week. About 8% of the United States suffers from eating disorders. While eating disorders are thought to primarily affect one’s physical health, your mental health is also largely impacted. In fact, eating disorders can be risk factors of su***de and suicidal ideation. This is where the work of The Jason Foundation comes in.

The Jason Foundation has several resources and materials that are available to those looking for more information about su***de and how to get help. Visit www.JasonFoundation.com, as well as the Tennessee Won’t Be Silent site, www.TNWontBeSilent.com. Another excellent resource is The Su***de & Crisis Lifeline at 988, which is open 24/7 and has trained counselors ready to assist anyone in mental crises.

As an Ambassador for The Jason Foundation, I am proud to support their ongoing work for the prevention of su***de and raise awareness about the “silent epidemic” of youth su***de. This February, take some time to take care of your mind and body.

In 2021, seniors were scammed out of $1.7 billion in the U.S. and $32.5 million in the state of Tennessee. These numbers are 74% higher than 2020 and have the potential to keep growing. People will say whatever it takes to get your money or personal information, even claiming to be a family, friend or the government. If they seem suspicious, trust your gut and just hang up. If you think you are a victim of a scam, call your local sheriff’s office to report it immediately!

Great work from District Attorney Robert Carter and Assistant District Attorneys Mike Randles and Amber Sandoval.

FATHER GIVEN MAXIMUM SENTENCE FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER OF INFANT DAUGHTER

Today, after a sentencing hearing for Attempted First Degree Murder and Aggravated Child Abuse, Judge Stellla Hargrove sentenced Michael Fisher to the maximum possible sentence of 50 years in prison.

Earlier this year, a Lincoln County jury found Fisher guilty of both counts after hearing the disturbing facts of the case. "Assistant District Attorney Gary Howell did a phenomenal job in seeking justice for Baby Addilyn. He was relentless in making sure Fisher would be held responsible for his actions." District Attorney Brent Cooper. "We're praying for a miracle for Addilyn, so that she may achieve some quality of life. She is certainly blessed to be with the family she has now."
