📢 WEATHER ALERT: OFFICE CLOSURE FOR MONDAY, JANUARY 26, 2026

Attention Comrades, Veterans, and Visitors:

Due to the current inclement weather and for the safety of our community, DAV Chapter #46 will be CLOSED tomorrow. As a reminder, our Chapter follows the Cumberland County School System for weather-related closures. Since the school system has announced a closure, our offices at 520 Johnson Street will also remain closed to the public.

What this means for you:

Claims Services: We remain committed to fulfilling our promises to the men and women who served. As the largest VA claims assistance office in North Carolina, we will resume providing superior services to our fellow Veterans and their families as soon as conditions allow.

Please stay safe and off the roads if possible.

Past National Commander Daniel Contreras was recently a guest on The Happy Healthy Caregiver podcast with show host Elizabeth Miller. He is a U.S. Army veteran, proud husband and devoted caregiver to his wife, Teresa. After years of service and leadership with—including his role as National Commander—Daniel have become a strong advocate for both caregivers and care receivers.

Like many military spouses and family members, he didn’t initially see himself as a “caregiver.” That changed when, as a DAV leader, he sought to better understand the DAV’s Caregiver Support Program by completing the onboarding process. Now, he’s on a mission to raise awareness and provide resources for the 70% of veterans who are caring for loved ones.

In this episode of the Happy Healthy Caregiver podcast:

1. The resources DAV offers to support veterans who are also caregivers
2. How Daniel’s perspective on self-care has shifted as Teresa’s cancer journey has progressed
3. The creative outlets they enjoy together, including Legos, crafts, and hobbies that bring them joy
4. How something as simple as a karaoke app helps him relieve stress and recharge
