Fayette Ambulance Service is currently trending more than 25+ calls higher than this time last year. 🚑📈

While increased call volume shows the trust our community places in us, it also highlights the growing demand for emergency medical services in our area.

Three different times just this week, both ambulances were committed at nearly the same time on separate 911 calls — or one ambulance was just returning to the station when another emergency call came in.

That level of activity reiterates the need for more volunteers.

Volunteer EMS is truly a team effort. It takes drivers, EMTs, AEMTs, and paramedics all working together to ensure someone is available when a neighbor calls 911.

As our community’s needs continue to grow, so does the need for additional volunteers willing to step up and serve.

EMS Tip Thursday: The Importance of C-Collars

Cervical collars, commonly called “C-collars,” are an important tool used by EMS providers to help protect a patient’s neck and spine after a possible injury.

Falls, vehicle accidents, sports injuries, and other traumatic incidents can sometimes cause spinal injuries that may not be immediately obvious. A C-collar helps limit movement of the head and neck while EMS crews assess, treat, and transport the patient.

While not every patient requires a C-collar, EMS providers carefully evaluate each situation using medical guidelines and patient symptoms to determine the safest course of action.

The goal is simple:
Protect the spine. Prevent further injury. Keep the patient safe.

🚑 On a volunteer ambulance service, most nights look the same…

You show up, train, restock trucks, complete rig checks, handle calls, finish paperwork, clean equipment… and then head home to do it all again another day.

A lot of times there is not much opportunity to simply slow down and enjoy being together as a crew outside of the work that needs to get done.

Tonight was a little different.

Before monthly rig checks, our Service Director hosted a thank-you supper for the crew. It gave everyone a chance to sit down, relax for a little while, share stories, laugh together, enjoy some food, and take a small break before getting back to work.

EMS Week may have officially been last week, but we could not pass up the opportunity to show appreciation for the volunteers who continue to dedicate their time to serving this community.

Service Director Post also awarded EMT AnnMarie Knickerbocker the Service Director’s Coin of Excellence for passing her National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians exam to become a certified EMT.

Mayor Gavin was able to pop in at the end to personally thank the crew present for their hard work. Thank for the support Mayor Gavin!

“One person does not make an ambulance service, it takes a team of hardworking and dedicated volunteers to make us outstanding. Thank you to my crew and without you, we would not be able to give the level of a care we do.”

- Service Director Nathan Post

(No taxpayer or donated funds were used to purchase the food or materials. The supper was privately funded).

Congratulations AnnMarie Knickerbocker on passing her EMT cognitive test (written) for NREMT.

This winter/spring AnnMarie had put in countless hours of class time, studying, ride time in ambulances, clinic time in hospitals, and tests to help her reach her goal of being National Registered Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT).

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) provide out of hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical services (EMS) system. EMTs have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life threatening emergencies. EMTs function as part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical oversight. EMTs perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. EMTs are a critical link between the scene of an emergency and the health care system.

Congratulations and we are very proud of your dedication and hard work!

If you want to know more on how you can gain your EMT certification with FAS, reach out to us!

Last night, the Fayette Ambulance Service demonstrated the true strength of volunteer EMS teamwork and dedication.

While responding to a 911 call with four crew members, a second 911 emergency was dispatched. Within minutes, additional volunteers responded — allowing FAS to provide Advanced Life Support care to two separate emergencies at essentially the same time.

That level of response is something truly special for a volunteer ambulance service and speaks volumes about the dedication of our crew members and their commitment to this community.

🚑 First 911 Response:
Advanced EMT Roger Post
EMT Brandon Johnson 🚙
Driver Scott Luchsinger
Driver AnnMarie Knickerbocker

🚑 Second 911 Response:
Advanced EMT Nathan Post
EMT Nicholas Post 🚙
EMT Tim O’Brien 🚙
EMT Shawn Gilson 🚙
Driver Rick Hofmeyer

🚑 Available if Additional Assistance Was Needed:
Driver Andrew Nostvick

(The car emojis 🚙 represents crew members that were unable to make the ambulance and responded to the scene in their personally owned vehicle).

Volunteer EMS is truly a team effort. No single volunteer can make every call — it takes multiple dedicated individuals stepping up when they are available to ensure our community continues receiving exceptional emergency medical care.

Thank you to all of our crew members who answered the call last night and continue serving our community day and night.

Interested in joining this amazing team? We are always looking for additional volunteers to help make a difference in our community. Please reach out to learn more!
