Fayette County High School Alumni

Fayette County High School Alumni Fayette County High School opened September 1, 1915, with 160 students in grade 8-11, and with three teachers, including the principal.

There were 22 in the first graduating class in May, 1916. The building was a two-story structure with six rooms, an auditorium and a basement. About 1923 a small wooden building was built by the manual training class with most of the materials donated by W.P. Brown and Sons Lumber Company. This building housed the home economics classes and the science laboratory. By this time, the school enrollme

nt had increased to 289, and the faculty increased to seven. After the main building was destroyed by fire in December, 1933, it was replaced by a one-story brick building. Then in 1990, a new school was built at the current location of 202 Tiger Drive. At that time, Fayette County High School became grades 9-12. The 1933 school currently houses Fayette Middle School.
