April Fayette ACE Update:

We have kicked off the new committee's that are through Fayette ACE and have our first meetings set for the first week of May. We are still looking for individuals who are interesting in participating in these committee's, so reach out if you are interested or have any questions. The committee's include: promoting small, locally owned businesses, hosting regular downtown events and a downtown partnership model.

Last week, Mayor Northam, Councilman Rodgers and ACE Coordinator Jackson Kimbrell met with Mariah Montgomery from Main Street Alabama and it was exciting to hear the progress that the City of Fayette had made since her last visit last summer. It was also great to hear that the new committee's through ACE line up with the criteria from Main Street for the next steps in becoming a "designated" community. We are excited to continue being a part of the "network" communities program and the great resources and plans that we have access through the Main Street Program.

Upcoming Events:
We are working on planning an "America 250" celebration on June 27th in downtown Fayette and look forward to everyone coming out to help us celebrate this amazing milestone in our country's rich history. We will take a look back at how we got here, remember and honor the Veteran's who kept our country free and look forward to shaping the future of our great nation!

This year's Leadership Fayette County class will have a graduation ceremony of May 12th at 12:00 p.m. at the Fayette Civic Center. We invite everyone to come out, hear the group's presentations that they have worked on for several months and celebrate this year's leadership class!

Fayette ACE is working on creating committees to work on topics that the city council prioritized from the city’s strategic plan and Main Street Alabama meeting. We are looking for members of the community to participate and be a part of these committees. This is a great leadership opportunity or chance to be engaged in the growth of our city. Please reach out with any questions or if you are interested in participating!

The committees include:
- Support and grow small, locally-owned businesses
- Hosting regular events downtown to draw people downtown
- Establish a downtown programming coordinator or partnership model (Main Street Alabama)

I wanted to take a moment this morning to introduce myself as the new ACE Coordinator for the City of Fayette. My name is Jackson Kimbrell and I’ve lived in Fayette my whole life. I am a 2023 graduate of Fayette County High School, earned my Associates Degree from Bevill State in 2024 and am set to graduate from The University of Alabama with my Bachelor’s Degree in May of this year. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve in this role, and I look forward to working with everyone in our community to help Fayette strive. Make sure and be on the lookout as we move forward with promoting leadership, participate in the city’s plans for growth and the overall city’s visions.

Yesterday was a great day for leadership and learning!

Our Junior Mayor, Sean White, kicked it off by sharing who the Fayette Junior City Council is, their mission, and the exciting things currently coming up spearheaded by them. From there, we heard from some of the backbone of Fayette’s everyday operations — City of Fayette street and sanitation superintendent, Marty Weeks and Matt Buckner, our Wastewater Treatment & Sewer Superintendent — giving us a behind-the-scenes look at how their departments run.

We then toured Fayette City Hall and had the privilege of meeting more of the amazing team that keeps everything moving: Nikki Dove, Sherry Fowler, Dawn Clapp, Jennifer Roberts (Transportation Manager), and our Chamber Director and Leadership Fayette team member, Mrs. Emily. These are the stars that brighten up City Hall. 😊

Even though the weather was cold, the sun was shining — so our Leadership team decided to walk over to the Fayette Police and Fire Departments. We were welcomed at the door by Chief Danny Jenkins, and along with Sergeant Roberts, they gave us a powerful look into the day-to-day work of law enforcement and what it really means to serve and protect.

At the Fire Department, Lieutenant Chris Black walked us through their operations and daily responsibilities. It gives you a whole new level of respect when you see up close the risks they take and the heart they bring to this community.

We also toured the Fayette County Courthouse, where we heard from EMA Director Michael Stoker and District Judge Merrell Nolen — giving our group a deeper understanding of emergency management, justice, and how our county systems work together.

We are truly grateful for every volunteer speaker and every public servant who poured into our team.

To close out the day, we worked on our group projects and learned how to create SMART goals so we can turn vision into action and stay on track.

Next month, we’ll be heading to Montgomery to meet with our legislators and tour key sites as we keep learning how leadership works at every level.
