DC ROGERS UPDATE
On June 1st, a major rain event took place, causing significant damage to the Peters Lake spillway. This was due to 5"- 6" of rain on top of already saturated ground. As you may be aware, Peters Lake empties into DC Rogers Lake.
June 4, 2026 - DNR assessed the site and directed DC Rogers Lake level to be lowered by 5'-7'. The lake cannot be lowered any faster than 6" per day, per Sr Dam Safety Engineers.
Coupled with repeated storm cycles, producing inches of rain with each storm, the process has been slow. However, there IS forward progress.
Thank you to the Army Core of Engineers for providing two, 16" pumps which pull 7,000 gallons per minute to assist in strategically meeting the requested water levels.
The pumps are operating on the west side of the dam, with two 16" pipes lying across the road. They are releasing excess water around and beyond the wingwall outfall repair project.
The road to the recreation area is closed due to the required placement of these lines, which had to be placed at the deepest location of the lake. Again, the lines are 16" in diameter and there are two of them.
The request to lower the lake level was implemented by DNR engineers to prevent further erosion of the wing wall outlet repair project. The erosion was caused by the massive release of storm water on June 1st.
The wing wall outlet repair project, at the time was about 45% complete and making headway. In addition to lowering lake levels, large sandbags were also required to be positioned around the outfall structure for further erosion protection.
Thankfully, water levels ARE decreasing. A run of dry weather is all that is needed to reach water level goals, and to be able to pull the lines from the road.
The City looks forward to reopening the facility as soon as possible for all to enjoy their favorite fishing hole and outdoor recreation area.
