It’s Fun Friday, and we’re wrapping up Community Action Month with a little love from our team! 💙

All month long, we’ve shared what Community Action looks like across mid-Michigan: programs, partnerships, customer stories, staff spotlights, and 60 years of helping people and changing lives.

Today, we’re celebrating the people who help make that work happen every day.

From offices, classrooms, food distributions, housing programs, Weatherization projects, community events, and behind-the-scenes support, our staff show up with care, purpose, and heart.

During Community Action Month and our 60th anniversary year, we’re looking back at several of the Executive Directors who helped guide Mid Michigan Community Action through different chapters of our history.

Today, we’re recognizing Mark Polega, our current Executive Director, who stepped into the role in 2025 after more than 17 years with Mid Michigan Community Action.

Mark’s journey with the agency began years before he became Executive Director, growing through different roles and gaining a deep understanding of Community Action, our programs, and the communities we serve.

In his first annual message as Executive Director, Mark reflected on a year of transition, challenge, and continued service. He shared that our work reaches “shore to shore,” connecting programs and resources across the region while meeting people where they are.

As we celebrate 60 years of helping people and changing lives, we’re also looking ahead to the next chapter—with gratitude for our history, pride in our staff and communities, and a continued commitment to showing up for the people we serve.

Supporting Veterans takes strong partnerships.

We work alongside EightCAP to ensure Veterans and their families in additional counties can access housing support. When communities work together, more people can find stability.

Serving Arenac, Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Lake, Mecosta, Midland, Newaygo, Osceola, and Saginaw Counties through Mid Michigan Community Action. Serving Gratiot, Ionia, Isabella, and Montcalm Counties in partnership with EightCAP.

🛠️ Weatherization takes a team, and that work makes a real difference.

From energy auditors and inspectors to crews, contractors, and support staff, many people come together to improve homes across our communities.

At Mid Michigan Community Action, Weatherization helps households make energy-saving updates that can lower utility costs, improve comfort, and support safer living conditions.

It also brings investment into the communities we serve. In fiscal year 2025, our Weatherization team:
• Invested more than $4.3 million in home energy improvements
• Weatherized 276 homes

Join us today, May 26, at Clare City Park from 11 AM-12 PM for a read-aloud story and bubble play. It’s a fun way for little ones to laugh, move, and explore while building early literacy skills.

Fun Friday Staff Spotlight: Terri McGee

Community Action works because of the people who show up every day with care, purpose, and heart.

Today, we’re spotlighting Terri, our Early Intervention Coordinator for Head Start Preschool. Terri has been with Mid Michigan Community Action for four years and plays an important role in helping children, families, and classroom staff get the support they need. She can often be found visiting classrooms, connecting with staff, and helping make sure children have what they need to learn, grow, and take part in classroom life.

When we asked what motivates her to do her best work each day, Terri said it’s the reminder that she can make a difference, “even if it is small and hard to immediately see.”

Terri loves working with children with developmental, behavioral, or learning needs, their families, and the staff who work hard to support them. She brings both professional experience and personal understanding to her role, and she hopes her work helps remind families that they are not alone.

Thank you, Terri, for the care, understanding, and steady support you bring to children, families, and staff. You’re helping make Community Action real every day.

Today, we’re recognizing Jill Sutton, who retired in 2025 after more than 36 years of dedicated service to Mid Michigan Community Action.

Jill’s leadership helped shape the agency in lasting ways, including expanding services, strengthening programs, building partnerships, and supporting work across housing, food security, early childhood education, energy assistance, and more.

In her final annual message as Executive Director, Jill reflected that the work of Community Action has always been about more than services; it has been about creating opportunities, building connections, and supporting communities.

As we celebrate 60 years of helping people and changing lives, we’re grateful for Jill’s many years of leadership and for the foundation she helped strengthen for the future.
