FYI: We have had several people coming in the office asking about this and just wanted to let everyone know the videos are not accurate and you should not click on any link that may be associated with the video.

There is no such thing as IRS Form 1098-SR. Rumors circulating on social media and video platforms claiming the IRS created a "1098-SR" form to allow senior homeowners to cap or freeze their property taxes are entirely false.

The Facts About Tax Forms and Property TaxesNo Senior Property Tax Form: The IRS does not have a Form 1098-SR, and no federal program or IRS form exists to freeze or reduce property taxes for senior citizens.Local Control: Property taxes are managed strictly by state and local governments, not the federal government.

Any senior tax exemptions or assessment freezes depend completely on local county or state laws. Real 1098 Forms: The standard IRS Form 1098 is a Mortgage Interest Statement used by lenders to report $600 or more of mortgage interest paid by a borrower during the year. Other real variants include Form 1098-E (student loan interest) and Form 1098-T (tuition statements). Always check official government channels, such as your local county tax assessor's office, before trusting tax claims or sharing personal information online.

Notice of Public Hearing

The Surrey Township Planning Commission will hold a Public Hearing on August 31st, 2026
at 6:00 P.M. in the Surrey Township Hall, 110 E Michigan, Farwell, MI 48622 to take public
comment and consider the rezoning of 2655 W Ludington Dr. from its current designation of
R-1 Single-Family Residential to C-1 Commercial.

If you are unable to attend and wish to comment, you may submit written comments to:
Surrey Township Zoning Administrator, P.O. Box 647, Farwell, MI 48622, drop them in the
drop box outside the clerk's office, or in person at the office until 5 P.M. August 31st, 2026.
