I believe trails and active transportation are key to connecting neighborhoods within the city and adding to our quality of life.
I see residents out walking, running, riding bikes, walking dogs, etc.
In an attempt to create connections, I formed the Farr West Trails and Active Transportation Committee comprised of residents from all over town with different needs and interests to create a plan that can then be used to implement corridors throughout the city. The committee had booths at several freedom festivals to gain feedback from other residents on what they desired. Once compiled, the plan was adopted as an addendum to the general plan. From that plan we can request funding opportunities to implement the corridors.
I authored and secured grant funding for the improvements to the Mountain View pathway, Smith Family Park trails, and the Neighborhood Bikeway that connects the two major parks as well as other stops between.
For the last few years we’ve held a park to park ride as an event of the annual Freedom Festival.

This is an example of grassroots participation in improving our community. I’ve always been interested in getting our residents involved in organizing, planning, and implementing what they desire for their community.

My new involvement with TFNU board and WFRC Active Transportation Committee give me access to more resources for even more implementations and funding opportunities.

The safe streets committee is basically modeled after the success of the AT Committee

To recognize those that contributed to the success of Smith Family Park, I proposed a fund raiser that included buying bricks to recognize donors and contributors and also our veterans.
A local landscape architect Darren Burnett designed the Veterans Plaza where we now hold flag raising events twice a year to honor our veterans on Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

After the initial project was completed we’ve been gathering and engraving additional veterans bricks that I’ve paid for out of my own pocket which I proudly do in their honor.

During my time in public service I’ve had the privilege of working with volunteers, staff, and contractors to request for grant funding on projects like Smith Family Park.
We were rewarded over 1.6 million dollars over several grant cycles to help build the playgrounds, trail systems, exercise stations, pavilions, restrooms, sports courts and fields and fishing pond.
Volunteers worked on many in kind labor projects including cleaning up the site, assembling windmills and equipment.
We had a committee of residents help with the overall design of the park and layout of amenities.
Truly a park for the people by the people.
I’m proud to have been involved from its inception and seeing it through to what we have today.
None of this would have happened without the generosity of the Smith and Marriott families and their donations of land for the park.

🇺🇸 Citizen Endorsement to Re-Elect Ken Phippen
for Farr West City Mayor 🇺🇸

As engaged citizens of Farr West, we appreciate Mr. Bolos’s desire to serve our community. His enthusiasm is admirable, we like and respect him, and we believe he may one day be a strong candidate for Mayor, but now is not that time.

This election calls for experience, proven leadership, and a deep understanding of city governance—qualities that Mayor Ken Phippen clearly demonstrated in the recent debate and throughout his years of service.

Mr. Phippen’s background speaks for itself: years on the Planning Commission, City Council, and various committees, plus serving as Mayor. These roles have given him firsthand knowledge of the city’s needs and operations. In contrast, Mr. Bolos has not previously served in a Farr West City government capacity, and that lack of experience was evident during the debate. While both candidates had time to prepare, Mr. Bolos struggled to answer basic questions about city management, often relying on disorganized notes. Basic questions that should've been answered "off the cuff."

We admire Mr. Bolos beginning to attend committee meetings—after announcing his candidacy; however, city leadership requires long-term commitment, not just campaign-season interest. If Mr. Bolos would've been more involved with city governance, he would've been more prepared to lead the debate, and the city as Mayor. We look forward to Mr. Bolos running in the next Mayoral campaign with city experience under his belt, he'd be a great candidate for the next go around.

This election is too important to be decided by popularity or sentiment. Farr West deserves a Mayor who can hit the ground running, make informed decisions, and represent our community with confidence. Let's not try to fix what's not broken. That’s why we support the re-election of Ken Phippen. He’s the right leader for right now.

Let’s vote with care, not apathy. Let’s vote for experience. Let’s vote to re-elect Ken Phippen for Farr West City Mayor.

As a member of the Farr West City Council, I’m proud to endorse Ken Phippen for re-election. Mayor Phippen brings a depth of experience that comes only from years of dedicated service to our community. His tenure has given him a deep understanding of Farr West’s needs and the insight to balance growth while preserving the character that makes our City special.
It should be observed that his approach to campaigning reflects the same fiscal responsibility he demonstrates in city leadership. He has chosen not to accept campaign donations, instead funding his campaign from his own pocket and reusing materials from previous elections. That commitment speaks volumes about his integrity, stewardship, and respect for taxpayer dollars.

Ken has been a consistent advocate for trails and active transportation, recognizing the value of connectivity, safety, and recreation for residents of all ages. His leadership has helped move forward projects that make Farr West a more livable, family-friendly community.

Ken’s steady leadership continues to make Farr West stronger and more forward-thinking. I encourage you to join me in supporting and re-electing Mayor Ken Phippen.
