Small world interactions with Prince Edward ties! 🤝 Check out this neat story from Prince Edward County, Virginia, about former squad member and HSC alumnus, Marcus Ayoub, and his Heart of Virginia interaction hundreds of miles from home.
Sometimes, the world feels a whole lot smaller — in the best possible way!
Recently, we heard a great story of pure serendipity. Two individuals with ties to Prince Edward County found themselves crossing paths hundreds of miles from home while serving our country.
1st Lt Marcus Ayoub, a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College who volunteered with local fire and EMS and worked part-time for the County and Sheriff’s Office, is beginning his journey as a United States Marine Corps aviator.
LCDR Mark Campbell, who grew up in Prince Edward County, is a graduate of Prince Edward County Public Schools and the United States Naval Academy, and now serves as an instructor pilot with a United States Navy training squadron.
Ayoub and Campbell randomly crossed paths during a training assignment — an unexpected introduction, a shared connection to home, and that moment of, “Wait—you’re from the Town of Farmville, Virginia Farmville?”
Today, we’re proud to recognize both of these service members who are carrying a piece of Prince Edward County with them as they serve our nation.
Please join us in thanking LCDR Campbell, 1st Lt Ayoub, and all of our citizens who are serving or have served in the Armed Forces—your service, sacrifice, and commitment mean more than words can express.
If you’ve ever had one of those serendipitous moments—meeting someone from Prince Edward County in an unlikely place—we’d love to hear it. Please share your story in the comments.
Prince Edward County is never far—it travels with you.
