It’s a great start to the weekend for Prada!!!

Prada had been in our shelter and care since December 🥺

She is such a sweet and loving dog but no one wanted to give her that second chance because she came with a bite history (that wasn’t her fault), until today!

Thank you to this wonderful couple for giving our Prada a chance to a long, happy life. We are beyond grateful that you see the awesomeness in her that we saw.

Now introducing our newest team member for ACO Appreciation Week!

Meet Deputy Animal Control Officer Caitlyn Moore!

Officer Moore joined our department in 2024.

In the shelter, Officer Moore is our enforcer. She enjoys being out in the field and meeting the citizens of Prince Edward County and ensuring they are staying up to date on today’s animal laws.
At this time though, she is working in the visitor center as she is a soon mother to be 🥰 She misses being out on the road and is looking forward to when she can come back to the shelter.

Outside the shelter, she enjoys spending summer weekends at the lake, hanging out with her dogs, kitties, goats and chickens, and bowling with her friends and family. She is also excited and preparing to soon welcome her new baby girl to their family.

We are grateful for her hard work and excited to see her learn and grow in the animal welfare world.

Continuing our appreciation for our Animal Control Officers…

Meet our Deputy Animal Control Officer Ariel Witmer!

Officer Witmer joined our team in 2020.

In the shelter, she loves spending time and spoiling the animals in our care. She has been named the crazy cat lady of the shelter. If you have had issues with cats, she is the one you’ve probably spoken to. Officer Witmer does a lot of the networking finding rescues and securing placement for the dogs and cats in our shelter. She also does enforcement in the county making sure county and state laws are being followed.

Outside of the shelter, Officer Witmer enjoys kayaking with her dogs, visiting state and national parks, adventures involving an adrenaline rush and often just staying inside to binge watch movies and shows with her 2 dogs and 6 cats, all who have been adopted through different rescues. She also loves visiting her family and friends in Ohio. Officer Witmer also works part time as a veterinarian assistant for a local vet, in which she hopes to one day become a vet tech.

We are grateful for her dedication in saving the lives of our four legged friends everyday!

As part of Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week we want to introduce our totally awesome and dedicated animal control officers!

Meet Chief Officer Adam Mumma!

Officer Mumma has been part of our amazing department for 8 years and chief officer for 7 of those years.

In the shelter, he strives everyday to help the animals in need in our county from managing the shelter to enforcing county and state laws pertaining to animal care.

Outside of the shelter, Officer Mumma enjoys spending time fishing, camping, and spending time with the people he loves. He also enjoys the company of his 3 dogs, 2 of which have come from our shelter.

Officer Mumma has also worked at Richmond Animal League, one of our closest rescue partners, making a difference in lives across Virginia.

We are very lucky to have Officer Mumma leading our team. Your hard work in making a difference in the lives of animals never goes unnoticed!
