Happy Flag Day!

Did you know that the American flag has undergone 27 official revisions since 1777? Each star represents a state, with the current 50-star flag adopted in 1960 after Hawaii joined the Union. The 13 stripes honor the original colonies, red symbolizes valor and bravery, while white stands for purity and innocence. 🇺🇸

These colors represent the enduring character and spirit of the American people throughout history and across the nation. From the original 13-star design to today’s iconic symbol, the flag reflects our unity, resilience, and growth as a country.

It was an honor to join the community in celebrating America 250 Across the 4th LD. This event was dedicated to honoring our nation’s history, our veterans, and the values that unite us.

A special thank you to Suffolk County Legislator Nick Caracappa for organizing this memorable event. From the Hometown Heroes Veterans Wall unveiling and living history demonstrations to the student art showcase, Touch-a-Truck, classic car show, and live entertainment, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate, as well as the many volunteers, sponsors, reenactors, veterans, first responders, and community organizations who helped make the day such a success.

We look forward to continuing the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary! 🇺🇸

Earlier today, I had the opportunity to join some of my governmental colleagues in participating in the annual Blue Ridge Board of Directors Action Committee breakfast. It was a great conversation regarding a number of issues that are going on in our town, county, and state.

With Supervisor Dan Panico, Tax Receiver Lou Marcoccia, Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina, Senator Dean Murray, and Assemblyman Joe DeStefano.

I invited Suffolk County Clerk Vincent Puleo to meet with me to help better inform the residents of Brookhaven Town and Suffolk County about where to go for their important documents and services.

Although we both carry the title of “Clerk,” our offices handle very different responsibilities. As Town Clerk, my office works with vital records and local licenses, including marriage, birth, and death certificates, marriage licenses, parking permits for persons with disabilities, and more through Brookhavenny.gov/TownClerk.

The Suffolk County Clerk’s Office handles services such as deeds, liens, judgments, court records, and other county filings through Suffolkcountyny.gov/Clerk.

Too often, residents come into my office needing services that are actually handled by the County Clerk’s Office, and I know how frustrating and time-consuming that can be. By working together and strengthening communication between our offices, we hope to make it easier for residents to quickly find the right resources and get the assistance they need.

Our conversation will be posted on this account soon for all to see!

I had a great day on Wednesday speaking with residents during the Town Clerk's Mobile Office hours at the Port Jefferson Free Library.

Members of Port Jefferson Village, if you didn’t know already, the library has many resources at your disposal. Be sure to check the library’s event calendar for exciting programs offered.

Here are some unique aspects of the Port Jefferson Free Library:
- The library has multiple quaint and quiet areas for those who want to relax, read, and or study in quiet.
- Talk to the staff about the rich history of the library's beginnings, and or attend some of the children's programs offered here.
- Purchase discounted tickets for museums, adventure parks, and more.
- Rent an item from the Library of Things in the adult's section and or teen's section for your use.
- Check out the Art Gallery at your leisure
- Talk to the staff about the rich history of the libraries beginnings
- Teens have their own house! The 1812 house next door includes much of the history from its beginnings. Check out the original Dutch doors, beehive oven, original floorings, and authentic fireplaces in all rooms.
- You can't miss the beautiful location of the library right in the heart of the village.
- Donate used books to the library

Thank you to the library for hosting the event, and thank you to Zachary Sicardi from Brookhaven's Waste Management Department for joining me.

If you were born at Mather Hospital or St. Charles Hospital on or after January 1, 1964, your birth certificate is NOT held by the Town of Brookhaven.

These records are maintained by Port Jefferson Village, and you will need to contact them directly to obtain a copy of your birth certificate.

Before making a trip to Brookhaven Town Hall, please make sure you know where your birth certificate is filed. I want to save you a trip and help you get to the right place the first time.

Share this information with family and friends who may be looking for their birth records and or to those who may not know.

I was honored to attend the grand opening of Lake Grove Village's new Lotto Park on Tuesday.

This beautiful park is a remarkable transformation of a property that once housed a dilapidated structure and had become an eyesore for the community. Through vision, dedication, and investment in quality-of-life improvements, the Village has turned this space into a welcoming community asset that residents of all ages can enjoy.

Congratulations to Mayor Robert Scottaline, the Village Board, and everyone involved in bringing this project to life. The Village of Lake Grove has done an outstanding job creating a park that will serve the community for generations to come.

This isn’t Vegas! In New York State, you cannot get married on the same day as you obtain your marriage license. State law requires a 24-hour waiting period before the license becomes valid.
