Yesterday, our Juneteenth Blood Drive in New Haven was a powerful day of community. A special thank you to everyone who showed up to donate — we collected over 40 units of blood to support patients in need.

We’re grateful to all who attended, as well as our incredible community partners at the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Southern CT (Michelle's House), Dixwell “Q” House Community Center, the New Haven Fire Department, and Dixwell Congregational Church.

From the blood drive to the Sickle Cell Disease Educational Forum, we came together to raise awareness and make a meaningful difference!

A Juneteenth rooted in service, unity, and life‑saving impact.

Today, our amazing blood drive host Artie Hill brought her energy during this community‑driven event presented by the Greater Hartford Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., in partnership with the Epsilon Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Farmington Valley Chapter of The Links, Inc., Greater Hartford Chapter of The Links, Inc., Theta Alpha Sigma Greater Hartford Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., and the Phi Delta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

June 19 is also World Sickle Cell Day, a moment to honor sickle cell warriors, the light they carry, and the donors who support them. Sickle cell disease affects an estimated 100,000 people in the U.S., many of whom rely on regular blood transfusions — sometimes up to 100 units each year. Black donors are nearly three times more likely to be a match for the blood most needed by patients with sickle cell disease, making today’s turnout even more meaningful.

Together, our community collected over 50 units of blood to help patients in need. A special thank you to UCONN Health and the Wilson Gray YMCA for also standing with us.

June 19 is World Sickle Cell Day and Juneteenth.

Sickle cell disease disproportionately impacts the Black community, and for many individuals, blood transfusions are a critical part of care. Blood donors who are Black may have a unique ability to help provide the best possible match.

Hear directly from community voices about the real impact of sickle cell disease — and why awareness and action matter.

Yesterday we held our Board of Directors meeting at Albertus Magnus College, led by Chairman Tom Beyer. We want to express our sincere appreciation to all of our board members for their continued commitment and guidance. We were honored to highlight Mission Moments recognizing Sister Cathy Buchanan and Yordy Sanchez for their extraordinary impact as humanitarians.

Our leadership team shared thoughtful reflections on the progress and learnings of FY26, and our Regional Executive, Richard Branigan, outlined an inspiring vision for FY27 as we continue advancing our mission with purpose and unity.

We also extend a special thank you to the Ambassador of Ecuador, Leopoldo Rovayo Verdesoto, for joining us to honor Yordy, and to Lucian Terranova for sharing thoughtful remarks about Sister Buchanan.
