This morning a 3 man team of DRFPD firefighters competed in the 4th annual Hose Battle hosted by Wolf Creek Fire Protection District during Country Days. This event is hosted to spread awareness for the need of volunteers in the fire service and is always a great time. After 3 years of Doe Run taking 1st place, we'd like to congratulate Wolf Creek who won 1st place and the traveling trophy this year, great job guys and thank you for hosting!

ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING – NO THREAT TO COMMUNITY

Today at 4:21 PM, Deputies responded to the 2500 block of Hwy H near the St. Francois River, for a report of a gunshot with injury. A 34‑year‑old male victim was located adjacent to the St. Francois River with a non-life-threatening injury. Emergency Medical Services from the Wolf Creek Fire Protection District and the St. Francois County Ambulance District treated the victim. The victim was later transported by ground ambulance to a St. Louis area hospital out of precautionary measures.

Detectives were called to the scene and began investigating. Preliminary findings indicate the victim was walking near the river when he heard gunshots and realized he had been struck. The party responsible and witnesses on the scene were interviewed and released pending further investigation. This preliminary investigation indicates this was an accidental, isolated event and there is no threat to the community.

Upon completion, the report will be forwarded to the St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.

When handling fi****ms, remember the 4 golden rules of fi****ms safety:

1. Treat all fi****ms as if they are always loaded
Even if you believe a gun is unloaded, assume it could be.

2. Never point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy
Your muzzle should always be pointed in a safe direction, a direction where a bullet cannot strike anyone or anything you’d regret damaging.

3. Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot
Your finger should stay outside the trigger guard until you’ve made a deliberate decision to fire.

4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it
Before firing, know exactly what you are shooting at and what lies in the bullet’s potential path.

RE4261 and RS4285 responded to a motor vehicle accident this morning on T Hwy. RE4261 arrived on the scene to find a dump truck carrying lime off the roadway on its side with heavy damage and entrapment of the driver. Due to the time of day, RE3665 was requested with manpower.

RE4261 began extrication of the patient. RE3665 arrived and assisted with extrication. The patient was extricated in approximately 45 minutes.

Hwy T near Silver Point Church will be closed for another 30 - 45 minutes for cleanup due to a motor vehicle accident with extrication and Haz Mat spill.

Structure Fire: O’Bannon Rd.

E4260, T4270, RS4285 and automatic aid companies T4171, E3660, E3463, E3764, T3371 and T3870 responded to a 1st alarm, fire in a detached garage today just before 5:30 this afternoon.

E3660 arrived on the scene and confirmed a working fire in a 30X40 detached garage with heavy fire. A 1 3/4” hand line was stretched and fire attack began with the crew from E3660. C4201 arrived on the scene and established O’Bannon Road Command. The owners advised nobody was in the garage. E4260 arrived and supplied E3660. Crew from E4260 was assigned fire attack and search. St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department was requested to Hwy D/O’Bannon Rd intersection and Hillsboro Rd/O’Bannon Rd intersection for traffic control due to numerous onlookers that were impeding emergency vehicles.

T4270 arrived and supplied E4260. RS4285 arrived. Crew from RS4285 was assigned fire attack. The fire was brought under control and excessive overhaul was needed. E3764, E3463 and T3371 arrived. T3870 was disregarded and T4171 was moved to 4200 House 1 for coverage. St. Francois County Ambulance District arrived for rehab.

Crews from E3463 and E3764 assisted with overhaul. T3371 supplies water for fire suppression. The fire was determined to have originated on a work bench in the area of several batteries. Crews were on the scene for roughly 1 1/2 hours when command was terminated.
