Foxboro Elementary School recently witnessed a powerful example of kindness, unity and determination as a school-wide fundraiser successfully helped provide student Tamba with a new wheelchair, an achievement celebrated with joy, gratitude and a stronger sense of community.

The fundraiser, organized and led by a dedicated teacher at the school, Amanda Gunnell, brought together students, staff and families with a shared goal: to support Tamba by raising funds for equipment that would improve daily mobility and access to learning. What began as a classroom effort quickly expanded into a full community initiative.

“It made me realize how big our community is,” Gunnell said. “There were a lot of people who donated locally. People are inherently good, and it was nice to be reminded of that.”

In the weeks leading up to the event, energy spread throughout Foxboro Elementary. Students learned about empathy and service, while participating in activities and contributing in ways both big and small. Teachers and staff reinforced the message that helping others is a powerful way to build a stronger school community.

“I think it was a good reminder for the adults in my community that we can make a difference, Gunnell said. “It does take time and energy, but if you are inspired and able to help someone. Do it.”

The success of this fundraiser underscores a powerful message: when a community comes together with compassion and purpose, lives are changed. For Tamba, the new wheelchair is more than a piece of equipment, it is a pathway to greater participation, comfort and opportunity. For Foxboro Elementary, it stands as a lasting reminder of what can be achieved through generosity and heart.

Whitesides Elementary rolled out the red carpet for its youngest authors!

Students in grades K–2 proudly shared their class-published book, “All Feelings Are OK, But Not All Behaviors Are OK,” during a special “Meet the Authors” celebration.

From hallway exhibits to a red carpet ceremony, each student was recognized as a published author, building confidence, celebrating growth and honoring both social and academic progress.

With families joining the celebration and the school community cheering them on, it was a powerful reminder that when we uplift student voices, we help them believe in their potential.

To the novice, Kaysville Elementary School was the epicenter of flashmobs recently as students from across grade levels ran up on the school stage and began spontaneously singing, “When You Wish Upon a Star.”

In reality, it was a chance to highlight, thank and congratulate second-grade DEEP teacher Myndee Moulton — not only for her heartfelt work, but also to celebrate her as one of just 20 educators across Utah honored with a Beverly Taylor Sorenson (BTS) Legacy Award for Excellence in Arts Education. Her award is specifically for Elementary Arts Integration.

The celebratory ceremony was a surprise to Moulton and her class, and as she entered the school’s auditorium, students, faculty and friends who were already there erupted in cheers, clapping and shouts.

According to a nomination submitted by Kaysville Elementary music teacher Kate Austin, who is also associated with BTS Arts, Moulton “has been a driving force in bringing high-quality, inclusive productions to Kaysville Elementary, uniting the entire student body through the performing arts.

“She began this tradition five years ago,” Austin wrote, “and has since built Broadway-level productions with the support of PTA, parents, and staff. Her ability to rally families and inspire such dedication is remarkable—students rehearse three mornings a week starting at 7:30 a.m., a testament to the excitement and commitment she creates.”

Austin continued: “Myndee is fearless in advocating for what the program needs, whether that means securing a new sound system or collaborating with the right people to elevate the experience for students. She pours her heart into every detail, often working late into the night to ensure each production is meaningful and polished. Her passion for the arts is rooted in her belief that they build community and provide every student with a sense of accomplishment.”
