Today at Rotary, we heard from Julie Head and Crystal Lobato from the Worker’s Compensation Administration Farmington Field Office. They discussed New Mexico Worker’s Compensation law as well as issues facing employers and employees. Have questions about Worker’s Compensation? At today’s Rotary meeting, we were pleased to welcome Carrie Olson as our newest member. She is sponsored by Jyl Adair, and we are excited to have her join our club.

We also heard from Sandra Connell, Chief Nursing Officer of the new Exceptional Community Hospital. She shared insights about the facility and spoke about their experiences during the first two weeks of operations, including the opportunities and challenges that come with launching a new healthcare resource in our community.

Today at Rotary, we heard from Rick Burns of Karadah Project International, a group which serves refugee women and children in Afghanistan. The organization provides food and educational resources to those displaced into conflict in their country. This allows these families to move out of poverty and begin to stand on their own in places where women are often not given opportunities to be successful.

Our Rotarians handed out the ‘Wild Robot’ book at Naaba Ani Elementary School on February 6th for the One School, One Book program to all 4th-6th graders.

Tuesday’s speaker was Traci Neff, Director of Youth Housing Department. There are greater than 9,000 homeless youth in New Mexico. The grant that funds this program is through Safe Community to find housing for these homeless youth. For more information, contact San Juan Safe Communities. https://www.sjsci.org

Today at Rotary, we heard from John Blais, CEO of Ballantine Communications which publishes the Tri-City Record. He talked about the local publication as well as other Ballantine publications. In other news, President Crawford and President-Elect Lucero were absent and Past President Gary Risley was left to run the meeting. Thanks for stepping up!

Today we met at Navajo Preparatory School and awarded our annual scholarship to Leilana Brown. Congratulations Leilana! We also got to hear about the school and the great things happening there from Shawna Becenti, Head of School.
