September is preparedness month. Are you preparedness to receive alerts?
In the event of an emergency, we rely on the San Juan County Communications Authority and the Everbridge system to send alerts to landlines and cell phones, by text message, phone call, and email. (It is like Reverse911, but a different company)
Landline phones will get alert calls, but for you to receive those emergency messages on your cell phone, you need to do two things:
First- Make sure wireless alerts are turned on. Yes, that means that you might get an Amber Alert in the middle of the night... But you will also get notice in emergency situations. For iPhone users, find out how here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202743 . Android users may have to Google it; it varies by device.
Second- Sign up for Everbridge notifications at www.SJCounty911.net
When you sign up for Everbridge, you associate your cell phone number with work or home addresses, and you will get location-specific alerts. Choose if you want a call, text, email, or all three.

Parents, please take a moment to talk with your kids about the seriousness of these threats and the importance of thinking before they speak or post.

Sergeant Martinez’s leadership goes beyond his role at the Farmington Police Department: it's rooted in his experience as a military veteran and the perspective that comes with serving alongside others.

That experience has shaped the way he leads. He understands the importance of teamwork, accountability, preparation, and looking out for the people beside you. His fellow officers describe him as someone who is always willing to help, challenge others to grow, and make sure the people around him have the knowledge and support they need to succeed.

One of the most meaningful examples of his leadership came when he recognized from a fellow veteran who was struggling after returning from a military deployment. Sergeant Martinez understood firsthand the challenges of transitioning home and made an effort to be there, even when that support wasn't immediately accepted.

Today, he continues to lead by example, from the newest patrol officer to the most experienced team member. His commitment to his officers, his department, and the community embodies what it means to be a leader.

Our shift briefings are officially taking place at our new police department, and we’re making great progress as we continue the move!

We are still working toward being fully operational and open to the public on September 16th, but we’ll make that official announcement here on our social media once everything is ready.
