Parties can be a great way to connect, but knowing a few basics ahead of time makes a real difference. Have a plan for how you are getting there and getting home, talk with friends beforehand about how you can have each others' backs, and look out for anyone who seems uncomfortable or unsafe.

Summer brings more time with friends, new experiences, and social situations that are chances to look out for each other.
Whether we are at a gathering, out in our community, or heading somewhere new, safety is something we can all take part in building by checking in with our friends, staying with people we trust, and having an idea about our boundaries ahead of time.

It's never easy saying goodbye, but we know Cassandra is off to do great things.

Cassandra has been an advocate with Sexual Assault Services of Northwest New Mexico in Gallup for close to 2 years, and we are incredibly grateful to have had her on our team. Her dedication to survivors, commitment to advocacy, and compassion for her community have made a lasting impact that will never go unnoticed.

Thank you, Cassandra, for everything you have done for Sexual Assault Services, the survivors you have supported, and the community you have served. We wish you all the best as you begin this next chapter and look forward to seeing all that you accomplish.

Good luck on your next adventure—you will be greatly missed!

Asking for help is not weakness. Talking about what you're going through is not weakness. Real friendships and relationships are built on honesty and that takes courage. It might not always be easy but it’s worth it. It starts with us.

We're taught early on what a "man" is supposed to look like. But those rules (stay tough, don't show emotion, don't ask for help) can cause real harm. This month, we’re talking about healthy masculinity: what it looks like to show up with care, respect, and honesty. What story were you told? What story do you want to tell?
