The Animas Elementary School Community Garden has always grown more than plants, it's the hub for student, teachers, and community members to discover amazing new things and grow their skills and experiences. Last week, students harvested fresh rosemary from their garden and put it to delicious use by making their very own rosemary garlic butter!
Before getting started, students learned how to properly cut and harvest the rosemary so they could get the most out of their herbs while also encouraging the plants to continue growing. They then got to see the process of incorporating their freshly harvested herbs into the butter, turning something they grew themselves into something they could enjoy.
Experiences like this help students see the value of a garden in a whole new way. They’re learning where food comes from, how to care for plants, and how something they grow can eventually make its way into their kitchen. A special shoutout to the amazing Animas staff who continue to come up with creative and engaging ways to show students just how valuable a garden can be! And a huge thank you to our FMS Student Nutrition Coordinator, Ms. Templeton, for supporting our schools and visiting these sites to help make hands-on events like this possible.
And of course, there’s one very important step still to come: the taste test! Stay tuned to see what our Animas students think of their garden-fresh creation!
