EXCESSIVE HEAT AND PEAK ENERGY USAGE WARNING
Farmington, Missouri (June 13, 2022) – Excessive heat this week means peak electric usage could occur from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. from Monday, June 13 through Wednesday, June 15. Although there are no electric market supply demand issues currently, peak energy demand is used as a billing cost determination for wholesale electric bills which can result in higher future retail rates.
Lowering demand during this time frame will keep the supply and demand situation stable and help maintain lower overall electric energy costs. Customers are encouraged to reduce their electric energy consumption between the hours of 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. by avoiding use of large appliances (washers, dryers, dishwashers, etc.), closing blinds and drapes to reduce the effect of solar heat in homes and increasing the thermostat 1 -2 degrees.
