Robert Argyle forged a law degree and began working as a lawyer for different entities. While masquerading as a lawyer, he stole thousands of dollars from clients; one client lost over $650,000 dollars, which represented his life savings.
In connection with his fraudulent conduct, Argyle has pleaded guilty to ten second-degree felonies and six third-degree felonies. The charges included theft, communications fraud, money laundering, identity fraud, forgery, tampering with evidence, and possession of a firearm by a restricted person.
The Davis County Attorney's Office would like to thank our law enforcement partners for all of their hard work to bring Argyle to justice. This was a lengthy investigation and prosecution regarding Argyle's criminal conduct that spanned multiple years. In particular, thank you to Special Agent Matthew Thompson with the Utah Attorney's General's Office, Detective Chris Jacobson with the West Bountiful Police Department, and Detective Eric Johnsen with the Farmington City Police Department.
Argyle is set to be sentenced before Judge Ronald G. Russell on November 3, 2021 at 1:30 p.m.
