Disturbing things were spoken last week at the Republican midterm convention. Thursday night President Trump led attendees in a pledge to "cheat like hell" and "go out and vote" in the midterm elections. "You know what happens if you don't vote?" Trump asked the crowd. "You go to hell." Trump promised $5,000 dividend checks to Americans if Republicans keep control of Congress. Those red flags are pushing folks to start preparing for possible election interference.

The anxious contingency planning as voting gets underway has become a marker for how fraught democracy has become in the country that once stood as an example to the world.

A piece of MN history you may not have heard about from this day 25 years ago. What an amazing staff at the VA and caring community helping with electricity to keep patients stable. Minnesotans really show up for one another.

Sept. 11, 2001, while all eyes were on New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania… at 11:32 a.m. the Minneapolis VA Medical Center telephone operator received a call indicating they should “evacuate the building, you are the next target.”

The operator immediately contacted the FBI who said to take the call as a legitimate threat and to evacuate the medical center. The medical center was evacuated in 43 minutes. The staff of the Minneapolis VA Medical Center worked together, everyone pitching in to include neighbors who provided electricity for extension cords to provide power to critical equipment.

A message from Mark Legvold for MN Senate

Patriot Day. 25 years ago I was deployed in the United Arab Emerites as a Firefighter. I always think about not only the brothers and sisters we lost that day, but the men and women that I was with. All committed to serving something bigger than themselves; protecting others. We were there to protect a smaller country from a bully dictator. Patriotically serving and protecting others became much more real for many of us that day. Today, I'd like to invite you all to post in the comments the positive things you've done in service to others since that day; not as a brag, but as a way to honor their sacrifice. We are all patriots when we serve others before ourselves. #9/11
