Tonight, your Farmington Hills POC Firefighters from Stations 1 and 3 completed their air pack familiarization course. To complete the course, each firefighter starts with a full SCBA bottle at 5500 PSI. Each firefighter then completes cycles of intense job related workouts without break, focusing on controlling their breathing to make their air last as long as possible. Our training hones our abilities as firefighters to work longer on air to save lives and property!

Great job to the FHPOCFA members and L2659 members who responded from their stations this morning!

This morning the All Call was issued for a structure fire at 10 Mile/Middlebelt Rd. Immediately FHFD firefighters including Paid on Call Firefighters on Squad 4, Engine 1, and Engine 3 responded to the scene with IAFF Career members. In addition, off duty POC firefighters responded and staffed SQ7 which aided in the transport of victims to the hospital with SQ1 and SQ4.

At approximately 0500 this morning L2659 members from all 5 stations responded to reports of a fire with multiple victims trapped. FHPD officers were first to arrive on scene and bravely executed several rescues, despite being met with heavy fire and smoke conditions.

Station 5 units arrived shortly after and reported heavy fire from the first floor. A quick hit was made as crews confirmed that the final resident was accounted for, before extinguishing the rest of the fire on the first floor. 12 people are being treated at area hospitals, including 4 of our own police officers.

We would like commend these officers for their bravery and quick action. Please keep them in your thoughts at this time. A special thank you to Livonia Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local #1164 and West Bloomfield Fire Department for their assistance and coverage during the incident.

More information will be released as it is made available.

BE ON THE ALERT TODAY!

The SPC has upgraded the severe weather outlook for portions of Southeast Michigan including all of Oakland County. Severe storms are expected to hit the Farmington Hills area around 7-8 PM.

Know your safety plan and in the event of severe weather take shelter immediately!

03/29/2025

We soon move from March into April, and severe weather concerns (TAP TO EXPAND) begin to increase as spring pushes onward.

A look into the future for tomorrow and beyond, we anticipate a severe risk tomorrow afternoon, and another severe risk may present itself for southern lower Michigan on Wednesday.

As noted by the CSU learning model (which is a probability based AI model) we end up on the northern edge of both days risk areas.

While confidence is increasing for tomorrow’s event, Wednesday is too early to get specific with.

As we become more active with severe weather, It’s important to remember severe weather safety plans.

We tell people to have at least 2 if not 3 or more ways to receive weather alerts.

Some options of how to receive warnings are.

1. NOAA Weather Radio with Specific Area Message Encoding (S.A.M.E.) to sound for your precise county

We recommend the Midland WR-120 Weather radio.

2. Wireless Emergency Alerts on your mobile phone (NWS tornado and destructive severe thunderstorm trigger your phone if you are in the warning area. Tornado, 80mph+ winds and hail larger than baseballs)

3. Internet and apps (MSC on Facebook, FEMA app, or other apps that have alerts)

4. Local news and radio

5. Friends and family (look out for eachother and share weather updates by call, message or text)

6. Outdoor warning sirens (keyword: OUTDOOR)
They are not meant to be heard indoors.

When a severe thunderstorm warning is issued for your location, take shelter indoors and away from windows until it passes.

When a tornado warning is issued for your location, seek immediate shelter in a basement, or the lowest, most interior room in your house. This could be a closet, bathroom, or interior room. Stay away from windows, and protect yourself from flying debris with pillows, or a mattress.

It’s best for those who live in Mobile or manufactured homes to seek alternative shelter in the event of a tornado warning or severe warning with winds over 70mph.

Remember, a weather WARNING means take immediate action, (I.E take shelter)

A weather WATCH means be prepared and make sure you have a plan in place in the event of a warning being issued. - But immediate life saving action is not necessary for a weather watch.

If you are new here to Michigan Storm Chasers, we live stream for EVERY severe or tornado warning in the state of Michigan. So in the event you have no other way to access information, feel free to tune in. We will walk through severe storms and pinpoint exactly where the worst is headed, right down to the road level.

We rarely ever ask our followers to share our content, but our mission is to keep the entire state of Michigan informed, safe, and prepared for mother natures worst. With that being said, sharing of our forecasts, live streams, and other life saving information that we post is strongly encouraged! Be sure to keep family, friends, and co-workers in the loop.

We got you covered this year and beyond from beginning to end.

With the incoming storms tonight lets remember that any time in Michigan between March to September has the ability to create severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. As always, remember to keep an eye on the sky and listen to all watches and warnings.

Never forget that the safest place during a tornado is the furthest point inside a building. If you are outside, find cover inside. If you cannot, move inside, find the lowest point in your surroundings (ditch, valley, etc) and move there. NEVER cover yourself under an overpass or bridge as it funnels the wind and increases the danger.

Have a good storm season and stay safe!

Tornadoes can be extremely dangerous. Safe places include storm shelters and basements. If not available, an interior room without windows can also be protective. If you receive a tornado warning, take shelter immediately! weather.gov/safety/tornado
