Every child has moments when their emotions feel too big. And that’s okay. What matters is giving them a safe, calming space to reset—without shame or punishment.
Enter the Cool-Down Corner: a cozy, comforting area at home (or in a classroom setting) where kids can go to take a break, regulate their emotions, and feel in control again.
Here’s how to create one:
🧺 Choose a quiet spot – A corner of the bedroom, living room, or play area
🧸 Add comforting items – Soft pillows, a favorite stuffed animal, a weighted blanket
📚 Include calming tools – Books, sensory toys, fidget items, coloring pages, or calm-down jars
🎧 Optional – Add headphones with soothing music or guided breathing
📖 Set expectations – Let kids know this is a safe space for them to feel, not a time-out zone
By building a Cool-Down Corner, you’re giving your child a powerful tool to recognize and manage their emotions—a skill they’ll use for life. 🧠💪
