BIG NEWS!
Two NASA experts will speak with students and the public during special events Sept. 15 in Farmerville. Hansel Gill, Director of NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, and Dr. LaQuieta Huey of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, will share America’s vision for space exploration and highlight the many successes of NASA’s Artemis program. Dr. Huey is a graduate of Grambling State University.

At 11:45 a.m., Director Gill will provide a NASA update during the Union Parish Chamber of Commerce luncheon meeting at Farmerville Church of Christ fellowship hall at 306 East Franklin Street. For information on attending, call the Chamber at 318-368-3947.
Throughout the day, Dr. Huey will present programs for school groups visiting the Union Museum of History and Art, located at 211 North Main Street.

At 5:30 p.m., both Director Gill and Dr. Huey will conduct a NASA presentation for the public at the museum.

On Sept. 16, NASA Public Affairs Specialist Christopher Blair will provide morning student programs for school groups scheduled to visit the museum. The Union Museum is currently hosting a NASA exhibit on loan from NASA Marshall. The museum programs are free to attend. For information on scheduling groups, please call 318-982-8020.

At Michoud, Director Gill oversees one of the world’s largest manufacturing facilities, known as “America’s Rocket Factory,” which employs more than 3500 individuals. Michoud provides the crucial infrastructure where elements of NASA’s Space Launch System and Orion spacecraft are assembled. Director Gill earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Oakwood University in 1996 and his master’s degree in industrial and systems engineering from the University of Alabama – Huntsville in 2007.
Dr. Huey is a materials engineer and physicist with more than 18 years’ experience at NASA Marshall. Her career spans aerospace engineering, materials science, and optical engineering, with a focus on advanced materials and their applications in space systems. She earned her bachelor’s degree in physics from Grambling State University, her doctorate from Alabama A & M University, and her M.B.A. from Florida A & M University.
Under Artemis, NASA will send astronauts on increasingly difficult missions to explore more of the Moon for scientific discovery, economic benefits, and to build on our foundation for the first crewed missions to Mars.
