The future of Farmersville’s long-running “Old Time Saturday” event is uncertain as organizers face ongoing challenges with volunteer support.

Bring ideas, bring help, bring people. Let’s decide together if this legacy continues.

For over 45 years, Old Time Saturday has been a Farmersville tradition, a legacy event that brings our entire community together.

But legacies don’t continue on their own and events of this magnitude don’t happen without people behind them. And right now, we just don’t have enough.

Without increased support and volunteers, we are facing the very real possibility of cancelling Old Time Saturday permanently. Not someday, right now.

We are not ready to see this legacy end. If you care about this tradition, this is the moment to show up. We encourage you to attend our Old Time Saturday Community Workshop.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The City of Farmersville has made the difficult decision to cancel its annual Sparks of Freedom fireworks celebration scheduled for 2026.

After extensive discussions with fireworks providers, first responders, and the City Attorney, city officials determined that the event cannot move forward due to several insurmountable challenges. These include liability insurance requirements, the significant strain the event places on the city’s limited volunteer resources, budget, police and fire departments, and overall emergency response capabilities.

Additionally, sharp increases in the cost of fireworks and ongoing limitations with the current venue—particularly regarding access for both attendees and emergency vehicles—are challenges that cannot be overcome at this time to ensure a safe and successful celebration.

City leadership remains committed to providing meaningful community events and will explore viable alternatives for future celebrations.

The City of Farmersville appreciates the community’s understanding and continued support as we prioritize the safety and well-being of our residents.
