TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO 26 YEAR OLD ROBBERY ARREST

Shortly before 10:00 p.m. on March 16, 2026, Officer Z. Merritt observed a vehicle traveling on Main Street with a defective license plate light and initiated a traffic stop.

The driver was identified as Simon Nelson of Farmersburg. During a routine driver’s license check, Officer Merritt received information indicating that Nelson may have been using an alias and was potentially wanted in Alabama for robbery under the name Carter Davis. Based on the information provided and a comparison of identifying characteristics, Officer Merritt confirmed Nelson’s identity as Carter Davis. Davis subsequently admitted to his true identity.

Davis was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Sullivan County Jail, where he is currently being held pending extradition to Alabama.

Davis has been wanted on robbery charges in Alabama for 26 years. He has resided in Farmersburg for several years and previously lived in the Brazil area.

Good job Officer Merritt for proactive policing!
