Suspect elder abuse? Call 844-880-1574.

Financial exploitation is the most common form of elder abuse, and seniors are increasingly being targeted.

It can lead to significant financial losses, sometimes exhausting the income of older adults. In 2024, older adults lost $2.4 billion to scams.

Seniors report losing more money to investment scams than any other fraud type and that they were most commonly contacted via social media.

Please join Sheriff Jesse Thomas, left, in congratulating Deputy Jesse Lee on completing the leadership development course as prescribed by the Minnesota Sheriffs' Association.

The program (183 POST hours) includes lessons on a wide range of leadership principles and theories, and their application, but the focus is on competency and mastery of what is taught.

Lee, who came to Rice County from another agency in June 2025, says he finished the course in about a year and a half.

Mailed solicitations from the National Child Safety Council on our office's behalf ARE LEGITIMATE.

All funds received allow our office to order child safety materials at no charge. We use the materials - coloring books, informational brochures, stickers and more - to teach young people about safety on school busses, bicycles, the internet and with guns; crime and drug prevention, dealing with bullies and more.

We appreciate any support you can provide. Please make checks out to the National Child Safety Council, a nonprofit, charitable, federally tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the safety of children.

You've heard it before - the 100 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day are the deadliest. Last year, 111 people were killed on Minnesota roads.

To help reduce that number, Rice County law enforcement, including our office, is conducting additional enforcement through Sept. 7, targeting the four behaviors that contribute to the most crashes — driving distracted, driving unbelted, speeding and driving while impaired.

Stay off our radar: Buckle up, slow down, put down the phone and don't get behind the wheel unless you're sober.
