SURVEY CLOSES SEPT. 15
Rice County is exploring development of a trail along Cannon City Boulevard (County Road 20) to connect Dundas/Northfield and the Cannon River Wilderness Area.

As part of the process, we've got a short survey related to individuals' use of the corridor and preferences for future improvements. Information from the survey will help guide decisions related to the proposed shared-use trail.

The University of Minnesota is partnering with MOWA and MPCA to host a FREE WEBINAR for homeowners to learn more about their septic system.
Event Details:
• Tuesday, September 15 - 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The ‘Being Septic Smart’ webinar teaches property owners the basics about how their septic systems work, including how to care for and maintain a septic system so it can function during or beyond its design lifetime.
Septic systems are designed to last 20-30 years but can last longer depending on use, care, and maintenance. Being Septic Smart provides information that enables property owners to maximize their septic investment so their system can function during and beyond its design lifetime, with information that includes:
• How a septic system works
• The purpose of the septic tank and drain field or mound
• How a properly operating septic system protects ground and surface water
• How often the septic tank should be pumped
• Whether additives are a good idea
• How to prevent winter freeze-ups, and much more

Rice County offices, including the Solid Waste Facility, will be closed Friday, July 3 for the Independence Day holiday.

Household hazardous waste — everything from paint & polyurethane to cleaners & coolant — can be dropped off for FREE at the county's Solid Waste Facility.

Even better: Residents 18 and up can take home the dropped off products. Again, for FREE.

The facility, at 3800 145th St. E, Dundas, is open weekdays (except legal holidays) from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and from April-October from 7:30-11:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.
