A core value of BBBS is belonging and creating a culture of inclusivity where our Black Littles are affirmed, valued, and worthy of a space that allows them to bring their whole selves. Juneteenth is a time to celebrate what the ancestors of our Littles have overcome, reaffirming our commitment to always empower their potential!

According to The Trevor Project, LGBTQ youth who have at least one accepting adult are 40% less likely to report a su***de attempt.

Many LGBTQ youth face increased minority stress through rejection, discrimination, and isolation, which can deeply impact mental health. Even one caring, supportive adult can make all the difference. Acceptance truly saves lives! 🧠🌈

These school-based matches wrapped up their final meeting of the school year recently. It’s never easy to say “see you later,” but summer gives everyone time to recharge before coming back together again!

Memorial Day asks us to slow down to remember the lives given in service and the families who live with that loss every day.

Taking care of your mental health can sometimes feel like a full-time job. We’re told to get enough sleep, exercise regularly, drink more water, practice mindfulness, take our medications, and schedule therapy appointments. Oh my! And while all of these habits are incredibly valuable, there’s on...

Talking with youth about mental health is important, but it's sometimes difficult to know the best way to bring it up. Here are a few tips! 💬

Be genuine. Youth can pick up when you’re uncomfortable or nervous. It’s okay to admit the conversation feels hard and that you’re not sure how to start, but that you want to be able to talk openly about difficult things.

Be okay with silence. Conversations about mental health can take time to process, especially if it’s not something you talk about often. Giving them space to think can help them feel more comfortable sharing.

Ask open-ended questions. Instead of simply asking, “Are you okay?” try asking questions about how they’ve been feeling or if they’ve noticed changes in their mood or stress levels.

Offer other support systems and share resources. Some teens may feel more comfortable talking to a school counselor, therapist, trusted family member, or support group, and that’s okay. What matters most is making sure they feel supported!
