The Traffic Safety Team continues to stay busy this summer addressing speeding and other dangerous driving behaviors across Fargo.

Yesterday, one of our Traffic Safety Team officers stopped a motorcycle traveling 79 mph in a 40 mph zone on South University Drive between 40th Avenue South and 52nd Avenue South.

While that speed is concerning, it is unfortunately all too common. Throughout the summer, our officers regularly encounter drivers and motorcyclists traveling well above the posted speed limits and driving in an unsafe manner...but our team in on it!

The Traffic Safety Team conducts proactive patrols throughout Fargo every day, working to identify and stop dangerous behaviors before they lead to serious or fatal crashes.

Every time you get behind the wheel or on a motorcycle, you make a choice. Choose to slow down, stay focused and drive responsibly. Your safety and the safety of everyone else on the road depend on it.

The Red River Valley SWAT Team will be conducting training exercises on today, Monday, June 22, at the following locations from noon - 5 p.m.

▪ The 50 block of 4th Street North
▪ The 400 block of 3rd Avenue North

SWAT Team members may be seen carrying fi****ms and moving around the exterior of a building; however, no live rounds will be used during the training exercise. The public can expect to hear loud noises and yelling in the area. Additionally, there will be several SWAT vehicles in the area with activated emergency lights. There is no safety concern for the public or surrounding area.

If residents have concerns, please contact the Red River Regional Dispatch Center by calling 701.451.7660 and ask to speak with one of the training facilitators at the training site.

This is a closed training exercise and is not open to members of the media or the general public.

A badge pinning ceremony is one of the most memorable moments in an officer's career.

For some, that moment was shared with a father or grandfather who proudly pinned on their badge. For others, it was made special by having their own children by their side or pinning their badge.

This Father's Day, we're celebrating the dads who serve our community every day, as well as their fathers, grandpas and father figures who helped shape to the men and women they are today.

When most people think of police work, they often picture crime in progress or high-profile incidents. In reality, officers respond to a wide range of calls every day that go far beyond that.

Officers regularly conduct welfare checks, search for missing and runaway persons, assist during mental health crises, respond to crashes, help with medical emergencies and connect people with community resources. They also staff the Fargo airport to support safety and security operations there.

A significant part of police work is proactive. Officers spend time on patrol initiating their own contacts in the community, addressing concerns before they become larger issues and building relationships with residents. This includes visible patrols in neighborhoods, as well as foot patrols and Trikke patrols in areas where closer community engagement is beneficial.

Police work is often less about a single type of call and more about showing up wherever help is needed. At its core, policing in Fargo is about meeting people where they’re at, being present, being proactive and being ready to help wherever needed.

When detectives learned a 12-year-old Fargo boy had been robbed while fishing along the river and had his fishing pole taken, they knew they wanted to do something more to ensure one terrible moment didn't ruin his summer.

Using their own money, the detectives purchased a brand-new fishing pole to replace the one that was taken. This afternoon, they surprised him with the new rod along with additional fishing equipment and swag thanks to the generosity of our community partners at Scheels and North Dakota State University.

However, the surprises didn't stop there.

Professional angler Spencer Deutz (Deutz Fishing) also joined us to present the young fisherman with a certificate for a future fishing trip together later this summer.

While our detectives continue working to solve the case, today's surprise was about turning a difficult experience into a positive memory and showing a young member of our community that he has an entire community behind him.

The is seeking the public's assistance in locating Sequoiyah Boone, a 16-year-old female. Sequoiyah was last seen on Tuesday, June 16, at 9:28 p.m. in north Fargo.

The Fargo Police Department is honored to join the North Dakota Highway Patrol and our other law enforcement partners in escorting Staff Sergeant Irvin Ellingson home.

After more than 80 years, Staff Sergeant Ellingson is finally returning to North Dakota. His story is one of service, sacrifice, and a commitment that will not be forgotten. We are proud to play a part in ensuring he is welcomed home with the honor and respect he earned.

We appreciate the public’s patience as temporary traffic delays may occur during the June 18 procession. For our community, this is an opportunity to pause and recognize a North Dakota servicemember whose journey home has been more than eight decades in the making.

June 18 and 20, the North Dakota State Patrol and many law enforcement partners will assist with processions honoring Staff Sergeant Irvin Ellingson, a North Dakota airman and World War II prisoner of war whose remains were identified in 2025, more than 80 years after his death.

Staff Sergeant Ellingson was aboard a B-29 Superfortress when it was shot down over Japan in 1945. He survived the crash, was taken prisoner, and died later that year while in captivity. Thanks to the efforts of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, he is finally coming home.

On Thursday, June 18, a procession will depart the Fargo Air Museum at 2 p.m. and travel north on Interstate 29 to Grand Forks. Additional escorts will occur in Grand Forks following a 4 p.m. Celebration of Life at Veterans Memorial Park.

On Saturday, June 20, a funeral procession will depart Grand Forks at 9 a.m. and travel to Dahlen.

Motorists should expect temporary traffic delays in the Fargo and Grand Forks areas and along portions of I-29. We thank the public for their patience as Staff Sergeant Ellingson is escorted home with the dignity and honor he earned through his service and sacrifice.

At approximately 5:14 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, Officers were dispatched to a report of a domestic incident involving a knife in the 2600 block of 15th St. S. in Fargo. Initial information indicated that a knife had been referenced or used during the disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Jeremiah Hunter, who refused to exit the residence. Officers also confirmed Hunter had an outstanding warrant for Aggravated Assault. Based on his prior history, the presence of the knife, and the unfolding circumstances, the Red River Valley SWAT Team was activated out of an abundance of caution.

SWAT arrived on scene and deployed a Flash Sound Diversion Device as part of their effort to safely take the suspect into custody. Officers also worked to contact and evacuate residents in nearby units to ensure their safety.

At approximately 8:05 a.m., Hunter was taken into custody by SWAT without further incident. He was arrested for Terrorizing in addition to his outstanding warrant.

Due to the deployment of the FSDD, fire alarms in the building were activated. Fargo Police worked with the Fargo Fire Department to reset the alarm system once the scene was secure.

The Fargo Police Department commends the response of its officers, the Red River Valley SWAT Team and the Fargo Fire Department in ensuring the safety of the public and resolving this situation quickly, and without incident. The FPD is committed to safeguarding our community by demonstrating our core values of Professionalism and Guardianship.
