The Fanwood Democratic Committee has endorsed Councilman Anthony Carter for reelection and Mike Lowenthal, currently a Recreation Commissioner, as a candidate for Borough Council. Mike will be running for the seat currently held by Jeff Banks who has decided not to run for reelection.

The Committee also joins the Union County Democratic Committee in endorsing Rebecca Bennett for Congress in the New Jersey primary this June. The Committees believe Rebecca has the best chance of defeating Rep. Tom Kean, Jr. (R-CD7) and flipping the district back to Blue. More at https://fanwooddems.com

Our fundraiser on March 5th was visited by Rebecca Bennett, one of the candidates running in the Democratic primary hoping to boot Tom Kean, Jr. from Congress in November. Rebecca is a former Navy helicopter pilot and test pilot, now balancing work in the private sector with raising two young children. Mayor Colleen Mahr, our committee chair, welcomed Rebecca with a few remarks. Members of our committee and other local and regional Democrats were also on hand.

Members of the Committee tonight heard campaign pitches from candidates Brian Varela and Rebecca Bennett. Both are running in the NJ primary, hoping to be the Democrat who will face Republican Tom Kean, Jr. in November. The 7th congressional district, which includes Fanwood, will be watched nationwide to see whether a "blue wave" flips that seat. Brian is a successful businessman who has worked on several Democratic campaigns. His website is https://varelaforcongress.com. Rebecca is a former Navy pilot who now works in healthcare. Members of our committee met with 7th District congressional candidate Dr. Tina Shah on Tuesday evening. Tina brings a passion for healthcare and insurance reform to a crowded field of Democratic candidates seeking their chance to show Tom Kean, Jr. the door and flip the seat from red to blue. This race will be one of the most-watched in the nation in November. We'll meet several other candidates over the next couple of weeks with our colleagues from the Westfield and Summit Democratic committees.

Fanwood Democrats shone in Monday's swearing-in during the annual Borough reorganization meeting. Council members Gina Berry and Kathy Mitchell were sworn in after their victories in November. Gina embarks on her second term, Kathy on her 9th. Lieutenant Governor-elect Dr. Dale Caldwell and Assemblywoman Linda Carter did some of the honors. Colleen Mahr presided as she kicked off her 23rd year as mayor.

Congratulations to all of our Democratic candidates on a great election night. Mikie Sherrill decisively beat Jack Ciattarelli to become New Jersey's first Democratic woman governor. Here in Fanwood, Councilwomen Kathy Mitchell and Gina Berry were re-elected after running unopposed. We congratulate all of these fantastic leaders!

Mail ballots must be postmarked by the close of business on election day, November 4th. You can drop yours in a regular mailbox or the ballot box at the north side Fanwood train station.
