The Fanwood Rescue Squad is thrilled to announce that Probationary EMT Hena Lad has been awarded the 2026 EMS Council of New Jersey Cadet Scholarship. This scholarship recognizes achievement and ability, assisting active cadet and junior members of rescue squads in continuing their post secondary education.

As a Probationary EMT, Hena has excelled by quickly demonstrating proficiency and remaining composed during patient assessments and interventions. Beyond her technical skills, she displays an exceptional bedside manner, approaching each patient she encounters with empathy and respect.

Hena’s compassion is matched only by her outstanding dedication to her community. She has proven herself to be an invaluable asset and truly represents the best of the next generation of EMS professionals.

This Fall, Hena will be attending Rutgers University to study cell biology and neuroscience in pursuit of a career in medicine. Please join us in congratulating Hena on this well-deserved achievement!

This past Tuesday, April 28th, Cpt. Brian Downing was awarded recipient of this year’s Shield Award from the Father Nelligan chapter of the Knights of Columbus. The Knights of Columbus Shield Award is an annual honor recognizing local first responders for exemplary community service, dedication, and bravery.

Brian most recently surpassed 15 years of service at the Fanwood Rescue Squad. Today marks the 78th anniversary of the Fanwood Rescue Squad. The squad was formed in 1948 by members of the Fanwood Fire Company who recognized the Borough’s need for their own Rescue Squad. The squad took its first call for service on May 7th, 1948 and hasn’t stopped since. Thank you to all of the members who keep the squad running, and all of the community members for supporting us!
