Dr. Bob Pearce was a familiar face to many Pendleton County farmers over the years. He was widely respected for his extensive knowledge, trusted advice, and genuine kindness. Whether in the field, at a meeting, or during a farm visit, Dr. Pearce always had a willingness to help and a passion for serving Kentucky agriculture.

His influence reached far beyond to***co, touching the lives of farmers, Extension professionals, and agricultural leaders across the Commonwealth.

Today is a sad day for Kentucky agriculture. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues, and the many people whose lives were made better by his service. His legacy will continue through the farmers and communities he cared for so deeply.

🥾 Year 4 of PENco Hikers is officially underway, and this year’s theme is all about arches as we continue mARCHing On!

Our first adventure of 2026 took us to the Grays Arch Loop Trail in the Red River Gorge, home to one of the tallest and most dramatic natural arches in Kentucky. Along the way, we spotted wildflowers (including lady slipper orchids past their peak bloom), crossed streams, admired rock formations worthy of the Prado Museum, and soaked in some of the Commonwealth’s most spectacular scenery.

📍 5.6 miles hiked
📍 837 feet of elevation gain
📍 One incredible arch
📍 A whole lot of community

As always, PENco Hikers is about more than the destination. Along the trail, participants explored environmental education topics including native plants, geology, and the ecosystems that make the Gorge so unique. We also discussed outdoor safety, trail preparedness, hydration and nutrition for long hikes, and the role that time outdoors can play in supporting mental wellness.

Most importantly, we did hard things. We challenged ourselves, encouraged one another, and strengthened the friendships that make PENco Hikers so special.

And because every great hike deserves a great reward, we wrapped up the day with pizza at the world-famous Miguel’s Pizza. 🍕

Want to join us on our next adventure? Our next hike is July 31. Call the Pendleton County Extension Office for more information. New hikers are always welcome!

Today, “L Squared” served up some fresh ground beef from Licking Valley Farms and G Cattle Farm in a delectable bite size mini Lasagna. Perfect for an appetizer, but it left everyone wanting the full dish!

The market was extra sweet today and BEEFED up for beef month and strawberry celebration.

Our Pendleton County Extension Office kicked off with a lesson that left them hanging. Hanging ear tags that is. We discussed cattle identification and kiddos designed their own ear tag keychains to add to their backpacks or luggage for summer travel. And earned 5 $1 tokens to spend on health and nutrition items at the market. Giving kiddos the power of choice and buying local.

Don’t miss out on all the smiling faces of the Pendleton County Farmers' Market.

Thanks to our extra special volunteer this weekend!

Lindie and Lilyana were dubbed “L Squared” by Grant county Ag Agent Chris, at their cutting demo.

Lindiecountyagent dusted off the frock and Lilyana worked on honing her knife skills by deboning and trimming.

L Squared cut up a steamship round showcasing new ways to add value to age old cuts and to maybe save a few bucks at the grocery store.

Thank you to Grant County Cattleman’s and the Grant County Extension Office for the invite!

Did you know Pendleton County ranks #2 in the state for doe harvest goals? 🦌

That was just one of the many conversations sparked during our Hunting Lease program this week!

From income opportunities to liability and land management, we covered the good, the bad, and everything in between—helping landowners think through whether leasing is the right fit for their farm.

A big thank you to the Pendleton County Farm Bureau for their partnership in bringing this topic to our community.

We also appreciate our guest speakers, Sergeant Scott Horn, Conservation Officer with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, and Buster Craddock of Wildlife Properties, LLC, for sharing real-world insight and experience.

At the end of the day, whether you lease or not, our goal is simple—more people in the woods and more intentional decisions about our land and wildlife.

Thanks to everyone who joined us!
