🚧Bridge Replacement Project on Milford Road in Pendleton County Now Underway🚧

The project involves removing the existing bridge and replacing it with a new structure over Mill Creek located south of the intersection of Brownings Corner Road and McKinneysburg Road.

Clearing work is currently underway ahead of the replacement. To accommodate bridge replacement work, the bridge will be closed to traffic during construction beginning Wednesday, May 13. A signed detour will be in place to guide motorists around the closure utilizing Brownings Corner Road and KY 539.

The bridge is expected to reopen to traffic on Monday, July 27. Additional work will continue throughout the project area following the reopening until all project tasks are complete.

The Pendleton County Fiscal Court, in partnership with the Economic and Tourism Development Office, has worked with the Kentucky Transportation District 6 office to secure approval for new signage along U.S. 27 at both the north and south county lines—welcoming travelers to our community.

The northbound sign was installed today, and the southbound sign is scheduled to be placed at the Harrison–Pendleton County line later this week, weather permitting.

𝐏𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝟏𝟎𝟗 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 $𝟑𝟔,𝟎𝟎𝟎.𝟎𝟎 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬

In March 2026 the Pendleton County 109 Board held their quarterly meeting at the Pendleton County High School media center. In addition to the normal business conducted by the 109 Board, there were presentations given by each school in the county.

The 109 Board awards each school in the county grant funding annually to be used for environmentally friendly learning improvements. The teacher presentations are provided to the 109 Board to show how those grant funds were utilized in each school the previous year.

All of the schools purchased OpenSciEd learning kits for their respective schools. OpenSciEd is a collaborative effort of leading science researchers and educators, developing “inquiry based” learning, aligned with the Framework for K-12 Science Education and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

This “inquiry based” learning, has endless areas of study available to staff and students. OpenSciEd uses many consumable materials, that are replenished each year, as well as incubators for bacterial studies, transportation in the future, and hazardous waste disposal which were purchased with the grant funding. Principals from the respective schools were present to support the teachers and provide input.

The presentations were well received by the 109 Board and others in attendance. After the presentations, the 109 Board unanimously moved to increase the 2026 Grant funding by 20% this year.

Southern Elementary and Northern Elementary were awarded $9,500.00 each. Pendleton High and Sharp Middle School were awarded $8,500.00 each. The Pendleton County 109 Board looks forward to learning how this funding will be utilized during the coming year.

Kentucky is preparing for future job growth and investments. 💪

Today, Governor Andy Beshear announced further momentum within the state’s speed-to-market and site development initiatives as 11 projects supporting future job growth and investment across 11 counties were approved for $12.98 million in state funding to improve Kentucky’s available sites. The counties seeing new site development projects include Caldwell, Fleming, Floyd, Graves, Hardin, Johnson, Lyon, Marion, McCreary, Mercer, and Pendleton counties.
