Today was our first class of CCD in Panna Maria and it made me think of this photo that was shared with me from the Arthur Conrads Photography Collection. This photograph is 120 years old as of last month. From this photo, the oak tree that welcomed the Polish settlers and the church they built still stand strong in our community today.

What a beautiful reminder of the strength of our community and our faith. Generations have gathered in our church, prayed beneath that tree, and passed their faith on to their children.

I’ve been on the circuit this week with days in both LaSalle and Frio counties and I’ve gotten to travel on this re-opened new bridge in Atascosa County near Campbellton,

Once this year when I was headed to LaSalle, I reached the bridge to find it gone! Talk about a detour that showed me some new areas of South Texas. I ended up visiting my neighbor counties of Live Oak and McMullen….before heading back into mine 😂

Traveling the circuit is my favorite and I love all five of my counties. I am grateful to serve the 81st each and every day.

Another wonderful Annual Judicial Conference with the Texas Center for the Judiciary.

Special thanks to Judge Susan Barclay, President of the Texas Center this year for appointing me to the Curriculum Committee. I am honored to serve and look forward working with this statewide committee. I am always grateful for the opportunity to try innovative ideas that benefit the 81st and to learn as much as I can!

I remember exactly where I was and the disbelief as we watched this day unfold.

I re-read this speech from President Bush 25 years ago…. And he is right still today. Our country is strong and we will always respond with the steel of American resolve and respond with the best of the American people…caring and helping where we can.

THE PRESIDENT: Today, our fellow citizens, our way of life, our very freedom came under attack in a series of deliberate and deadly terrorist acts. The victims were in airplanes, or in their offices; secretaries, businessmen and women, military and federal workers; moms and dads, friends and neighbors. Thousands of lives were suddenly ended by evil, despicable acts of terror.

The pictures of airplanes flying into buildings, fires burning, huge structures collapsing, have filled us with disbelief, terrible sadness, and a quiet, unyielding anger. These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed; our country is strong.

A great people has been moved to defend a great nation. Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shattered steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.

America was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining.

Today, our nation saw evil, the very worst of human nature. And we responded with the best of America -- with the daring of our rescue workers, with the caring for strangers and neighbors who came to give blood and help in any way they could.

On this evening ... 25 years ago, 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift.

None of them saw past 10:00am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same.

So, Tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted.

Four years ago, on a day when Karnes had a total phone service outage, I called the only number my phone would let me dial, 9-1-1. I had to tell the dispatcher that my kids and I were in a rollover accident. I then prayed it would let me call my husband and my dad and by some miracle it did.

It was the scariest day of my life and I’ve had some days before I would have given that classification to, that still pale in comparison.

God saved us from harm and I don’t take for granted that blessing.

I am thankful every day that these little people were not seriously hurt and that their memory isn’t filled with the same terror about it that mine is. I’ve driven 197,000 miles since then. I’m glad I was the one who was hurt and they were relatively unscathed. Neck surgery is hard, y’all. Your neck never gets a break from holding your head up.

I’ve spent the past four years being a little more thankful, a lot more humble, and grateful He gave me a path forward.

I always say that I believe God put me here to be a helper (public servant), to do as much good as I can, and I hope there’s at least 59 years left in my story (or as close to 100 as I can get).

Always look for the lesson even in the darkest days.

You only die once but you live every day— make sure you live your best life. Don’t waste it. Have a great day, my friends.

Today was an especially meaningful day in our 81st Judicial District Mental Health Court as we celebrated a “Phase Up” for two of our participants. 🎉

These are the days that remind me why this work matters so deeply. As a judge, I have the privilege and responsibility of seeing people at some of the most difficult points in their lives and then watching them work, grow, persevere, and begin to see a different future for themselves.

Mental Health Court is not about lowering expectations. It is about believing that accountability and opportunity can exist together. It is about setting goals, doing the hard work, taking responsibility, and having the courage to keep going when progress is not easy.

Today, we celebrated hard work paying off. We celebrated goals achieved and progress made. Most importantly, we celebrated two people who are choosing to keep moving forward.

I am incredibly proud of these participants and deeply grateful for the team, families, treatment providers, and community partners who walk alongside them. Every phase represents progress. Every milestone represents perseverance. Every success is a reminder that change is possible.

As a judge, these moments are among the most rewarding parts of serving our community. There is something incredibly powerful about watching a person regain hope, rebuild their confidence, and take ownership of the life they want to create.

Today was a celebration, but it is not the finish line. There are more goals ahead, more progress to make, and more opportunities to succeed.

Two participants. One important milestone. One more step closer to success. And a whole lot of hard work worth celebrating. ⚖️ 💚

A great evening with our neighbors in Bee County at their Republican Round Up with Governor Greg Abbott.

I’m always grateful for opportunities to visit with friends, meet new people, and hear the conversations taking place about the future of Texas. It is great to be surrounded by people who care deeply about our district, our state, and our country.

As a member of the judiciary, I appreciate being able to participate in our community while honoring the responsibilities and trust that come with the bench. Evenings like this are a reminder that civic engagement, good conversations, and strong relationships are an important part of what makes our communities thrive.

Today we lit a candle and said a prayer for my grandmother who has been in the hospital this week. 🕯️🙏🏻 We’re placing her in God’s hands and trusting in His plan and ever grateful for every moment we’ve been given with her.

She’s 94.5 years old but we so often assume there will be another visit, another conversation, another Sunday together. But the truth is, we aren’t promised tomorrow.

Don’t take for granted the time you have with the people you love. Sit with them a little longer. Make the phone call. Take the picture. Say “I love you.” Be patient. Make the memories. And most importantly, cherish the ordinary moments, because one day those may be the moments you treasure most.

And light the candles. They work.
