Growing together starts with listening to one another. 🌱 Our students are practicing an important Portrait of a Graduate collaboration skill: “I listen respectfully to others’ ideas.”

By making space for every voice, students build stronger relationships and stronger classroom communities.

A new school year means a new story to tell! 🌱

This year, our social media theme is Growing Together. Throughout the year, we’ll share how our students learn, connect, take on challenges, and build the skills found in Fairfax County's Portrait of a Graduate.

Every few months, we’ll introduce a new chapter of Growing Together, brought to life with artwork created by our students.

Next week, we’ll have our first pictures of the connections we're strengthening to start our school year!

🎬 Kindness Makes Our School Stronger!

In May and June, nine of our fifth grade students took on the roles of videographers, voiceover artists, and editors to help bring a special video project to life. Along the way, they practiced collaboration, creativity, communication, and digital storytelling.

Check out our latest blog post to learn how they did it and see the finished video: https://haycockes.fcps.edu/features/kindness-makes-our-school-stronger! 💙

Today, we celebrate Independence Day and the many stories, people, and communities that have shaped our nation over the past 250 years.

We hope our community enjoys a day filled with connection, celebration, and summer memories.

Today, we recognize Juneteenth, a celebration and commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. Also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, Juneteenth marks a day in 1865 when enslaved Texans learned they would be free, two months after the end of the Civil War and two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
