Firehouse 28

Firehouse 28 Firehouse 28 is a career fire station in the Seven Corners area of Falls Church in Fairfax County, Va. Firehouse 28 houses an Engine & Medic

There are 21 Fairfax County Career Firefighters assigned to Firehouse 28 divided amongst three shifts. Each Shift has a Captain, an Apparatus Technician (Engine Driver), two EMS Technicians (Firefighter/Paramedics), and three Firefighters. All firefighters (including the Captains) not certified to the Paramedic level are EMT's. The "B" Shift Captain is the Station Commander. We staff Engine 428 (t

he 4 in front of the 28 is a jurisdictional designator because in Northern Virginia we have an automatic aid response agreement it is typical to have fire engines from multiple jurisdictions on any given box alarm) with the Captain, a driver, a firefighter/paramedic, and a firefighter. Medic 428 is staffed by two firefighters, one paramedic and one EMT. Firehouse 28 is in the Fourth Battalion of Fairfax County and borders the City of Falls Church and Arlington County. The firehouse sits on Buffalo Ridge, a historical site where a Union camp (Fort Buffalo) once stood during the Civil War - hence the buffalo as our station mascot on the logo.

The fallen firefighter from last night’s home explosion in Sterling has been identified as Firefighter Trevor Brown, 45, of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company. He has been affiliated with the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System since 2016. Please keep Firefighter Brown’s family, friends, and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time, and we ask that the family’s privacy be respected.

As a result of last night’s incident, emergency medical services personnel from Loudoun and Fairfax Counties identified 13 patients in addition to the fatally injured Firefighter Brown. This includes 11 first responders and two civilians with varying degree of injuries. Of the injured first responders, four remain hospitalized at local area hospitals. The Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident and additional information will be released as available.

It is with heavy heart that we announce the LODD of a LC-CFRS member in an incident that occurred earlier this evening. Fire and Rescue crews from Loudoun County, Fairfax County, and MWAA responded to a call for a gas leak on Silver Ridge Drive in Sterling. Firefighters made entry and as they were investigating, a catastrophic explosion occurred, injuring several responders from LCFR, SVFC, and Fairfax. One firefighter was determined deceased on scene and several others were transported to local area hospitals for medical treatment. The scene is active with law enforcement and fire and rescue personnel and the Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating. The identity of the deceased is behind withheld pending notification of next of kin. We appreciate the continued support of the community and our public safety partners during this difficult time, and will provide updates as available.

The new Engine 428 at the shop, good shot of the new and old together. Thanks to Captain Cramer for sharing. Note the station name change on the rig, no more Seven Corners , the station is now known as Fort Buffalo (the station’s unofficial name for decades has been Buffalo Ridge but the official name was Seven Corners)

Child safety, you can never be to safe

We know it’s almost back to school time! And with that, you may consider it a tradition to post pictures of your kiddo’s first day of school holding a chalkboard sign.

Remember to stay mindful of the information you share because you may be revealing too much personal information about your child(ren). The more information you put out there, the easier it is for someone to pretend to know them – including predators and scammers.

It’s best to keep personal information at a minimum, regardless of your privacy settings or who you may be friends with. Or this year, maybe opt for doing a simple “First Day of School” chalkboard sign instead.
