Today, Captain Chad Sweeney retired from the Churchill County Sheriff's Office after 26 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Churchill County.

Captain Sweeney began his law enforcement career with our agency as a Reserve Deputy. After one year of service in that role, he was hired as a Deputy Sheriff and embarked on a career that would span the next 25 years.

Throughout his distinguished career, Captain Sweeney served in numerous assignments and leadership positions, including the Detention Center, Patrol Division, Field Training Officer (FTO), Sniper, K-9 Handler, Narcotics Officer, and Patrol Sergeant. He concluded his career serving as a Captain, where his leadership, professionalism, and commitment to public safety helped guide our agency and the deputies under his command.

Law enforcement is more than a profession, it is a brotherhood built on trust, sacrifice, and shared experiences. Over the course of his career, Captain Sweeney forged lasting friendships and earned the respect of those who had the privilege of serving alongside him. His knowledge, mentorship, sense of humor, and unwavering dedication to the job have made him a valued member of our agency. While we are excited for him as he begins this new chapter, he will be greatly missed around the office by all of us who have had the honor of calling him a coworker, supervisor, mentor, and friend.

Captain Sweeney's dedication, experience, and service have left a lasting impact on the Churchill County Sheriff's Office and the community we serve. We are grateful for his many years of commitment and sacrifice and wish him and his family nothing but the best as he begins this next chapter of life.

Please join us in congratulating Captain Chad Sweeney on his well-earned retirement and thanking him for 26 years of outstanding service to Churchill County.

Congratulations, Captain Sweeney, and thank you for your service!

🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨

The Churchill County Sheriff's Office has received reports of scammers contacting residents by phone and identifying them by their first and last name. The caller then claims that the person has an outstanding warrant for their arrest and offers to "clear" the warrant if they pay a certain amount of money.

This is a scam.

The Churchill County Sheriff's Office will NEVER call you and demand money to clear a warrant or avoid arrest. If you have an active warrant, we will not offer you the option to pay over the phone to make it go away.

In fact, if you have a warrant for your arrest, our deputies will locate you and take the appropriate enforcement action. We do not collect warrant payments over the phone, through gift cards, cryptocurrency, payment apps, or any other method.

If you receive a call like this:
✅ Hang up immediately.
✅ Do not provide any personal or financial information.
✅ Do not send money.

Please share this post to help protect your friends, family, and neighbors from becoming victims of this scam.
