On April 28th at 4:15 pm your North County Fire Protection District responded to a Vegetation Fire in the 2500 block of Live Oak Park Road in Fallbrook. Sparked by a lawn mower the fire spread to 2 acres. By 4:55 pm the forward progress was stopped and crews made quick work to put out the fire. We would like to extend our gratitude to CAL FIRE/San Diego County Fire, and San Diego County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.

As w**d abatement season draws near please keep these tips in mind before mowing-

🌡️Choose the cooler parts of the day like before 10:00 am to mow
💨Avoid windy or dry conditions
🍂Lawn mowers are for lawns, not dry w**ds or grass
💥Metal blades can spark fires when hitting rocks
🧯Keep an extinguisher close in case a spark ignites.

BURN PERMITS TO BE SUSPENDED MAY 1st

CAL FIRE/San Diego County Fire will suspend burn permits by proclamation on Friday, May 1st, 2026 at 8 am. Please continue to follow the rules and regulations and visit burnpermit.fire.ca.gov for further information.

Recently a vegetation fire on Rainbow Valley Blvd showed how quickly emergencies unfold and how smoothly our public safety partners work together.

Thanks to the rapid, coordinated response from Sheriff’s deputies, ASTREA, North County Fire, CAL FIRE, Vista Fire, Oceanside Fire, and CHP, evacuations were handled swiftly and the fire was contained.

This was a strong reminder of the power of preparedness and interagency teamwork.

On the evening of April 18th, North County Fire Protection District and CAL FIRE/San Diego County Fire responded to multiple reports of a vegetation fire along State Route 76 near Via Monserate and Gird Road in Fallbrook.

The first arriving engine company located several small roadside spot fires along the eastbound side of the highway. Firefighters from both agencies acted quickly, containing the fires to 0.32 acres. No injuries were reported.

CAL FIRE investigators have determined the cause to be a catalytic converter failing on a passing vehicle.

Malfunctioning catalytic converters can shed hot metal fragments capable of igniting dry vegetation. We urge all residents to keep vehicles well‑maintained. Warning signs such as reduced engine performance, a sulfur or “rotten egg” smell, or rattling noises can indicate catalytic converter issues.

Addressing problems early helps protect your vehicle, your safety, and our communities—supporting a more fire‑safe California.
