Who works harder, a Fairview Public Works employee mowing on a blistering summer day, or these girls braving the heat to sell refreshing lemonade?

They're all winners in our book!

Beginning Monday, July 20, the section of Latham Drive between Fairview Parkway and Convention Drive will be closed to all traffic as site evaluation and reconstruction of this portion of Latham Drive begins. The closure will remain in effect until Summer 2027.

Electronic signs will be posted alerting drivers of the closure.

The portion of Latham between U.S. 75 and Convention Drive will remain open for the next few months, until construction phasing requires it to be closed as well. The Town will send notifications before that additional section of the road is closed.

Please drive carefully, especially near construction zones.

The following is a summary of action taken by the Fairview Town Council at the July 7, 2026, regular meeting:

ZONING ORDINANCE TEXT AMENDMENTS REGARDING DAY CARE/CHILDCARE, SCHOOL AND RELIGIOUS ASSEMBLY USES IN RESIDENTIAL ZONING DISTRICTS
The Town Council approved an ordinance amending Town requirements for conditional use permits for day care/childcare, school and religious assembly uses in residential zoning districts. The ordinance approved by the Council contains the provisions as recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission. The ordinance removed day care/childcare uses from residential zoning districts and made a number of changes in the conditional use permit regulations related to school and religious assembly uses in residential districts.

FAIRVIEW YOUTH THEATRE GRANT
The Town Council took several actions to approve a proposed project between the Fairview Community Development Corporation (CDC) and Fairview Youth Theatre to extend the operation of the youth theater in the Fairview Town Center for five more years with a grant from the CDC not to exceed $65,155.

AMENDING PLAT
The Town Council approved combining three existing residential lots into two lots in the Harper Landing neighborhood.

APPOINTMENTS TO CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR IMPACT FEES
The Town Council appointed David Wideman, Bill Walker, Renee Powell, John David Cross and John Stanley to serve on the Advisory Committee for review of impact fees. The committee will review the current impact fee study and make recommendations to the Town Council related to whether the fees should be updated or maintained.

PURCHASE OF FIVE NEW SERVERS
The Town Council approved an accelerated purchase of five servers to replace aging hardware owned by the Town. Because of rising costs for technology equipment, the Council approved spending $130,000 to purchase the servers this fiscal year rather than waiting until the planned replacement schedule in fiscal year 2026-27.

Fairview Town Hall will be closed Friday, July 3, 2026, in celebration of Independence Day. Offices will reopen at 8 a.m. Monday, July 6.

As you celebrate, please remember that the use or possession of fireworks in the Town of Fairview is strictly prohibited (Ordinance 2014-40: Section 5601.1.3).

The Fairview Fire Marshal and the Fairview Police Department enforce this prohibition, issuing citations for violations. Fireworks present hazards to the safety of residents and pets, as well as the natural beauty of the Town.

Also note: The first week of bulk and brush pickup for July will be the week of July 6, which is the first Monday of the month. Trash and recycling pickup will not be affected by the Independence Day holiday.
