Art Friends,

Something wonderful in the art world locally is happening. We have banded together with art teachers in neighboring districts to bring you THE GREAT QUARANTINE ART ADVENTURE. Students in the Rochester area are invited to participate in this social media extravaganza of creativity. You can follow it via Instagram, Twitter or go to Webster teacher Todd Stahl's webpage. This opportunity is available to all families, all ages, anywhere. You can share with friends in other states if you want!

Simply put there will be daily prompts for creativity for you to interpret in any medium.

OUR ADVENTURE: Each day, we will provide a simple word to use as inspiration for you to create a piece of art during your quarantine. Your creation can be: a sketch, sculpture, photograph - the possibilities are endless. Use any material you have available like traditional art materials, Legos, the contents of your recycling bin, all that unused toilet paper you've been stockpiling… you get the idea. Work alone or with anyone from whom you have not been forced to socially distance yourself. Share your adventure with everyone you know, and encourage them to join in the fun.

OUR GUIDELINES: Open-ended and engaging prompts that are simple and accessible to all. Prompts can be interpreted in any way by anyone. When you post to social media, use the hashtag and tag us! We will be reposting as many creations as we have the ability to post throughout each day.

OUR MISSION: Creating connections and inspiration through daily art challenges.

OUR TEAM: Art educators interested in starting and stoking a visual conversation.

THIS IS COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY AND NOT REQUIRED.

HAPPY CREATING!

The FHS Art Department has reconfigured many of its courses. You will find both full and half year courses to fit your schedule. New changes are the combined courses of Drawing & Painting, 3D Design which incorporates both Sculpture and Jewelry & Metalsmithing. Some courses have name changes: Digital Media (formerly Advertising &Graphic Design) which will offer Adobe Photoshop certification in May of 2020. Students who have taken Drawing can still sign up to take Drawing and Painting I. New second level courses will be offered the following year 2020-2021 (Drawing &Painting II, 3D Design II). Updated course descriptions can be found on the art department website. Not sure of what to take? See an art teacher before if you have questions!

The Fairport K-13 Art Department has been busy setting up this year’s art show all year long. It takes months to collect work, mat it, print labels, address invites and wrap it safely for travel for this show. We’ve spent all week long setting up for this two week event at Perinton Square. This involves arranging tables and boards, taping and pinning work into place, arranging 3D work and making sure everything is labeled and ready for your viewing pleasure.

There are thousands of works of art from the student artists within our K-12 community.

Come to the opening day tomorrow March 8th from 4-6pm to celebrate with us!

An art education is so much more than painting, drawing, sculpting, cutting and pasting. The benefits of an art education cannot be measured by tests and data. Our students aren’t measuring their artistic skills based on how well they can draw... Art class is even more involved beyond learning about artists, various cultures around the world and art history.

We give our students opportunities to work with hands on projects in a variety of mediums with lessons that challenge their critical thinking, teach them to plan & think through their actions. They further develop hand eye coordination and spatial perception. Our students are given a voice to express emotion to things that cannot always be spoken. Students learn how to think creatively & imaginatively with innovation and personal expression. They learn how to take risks and recover from mistakes by problem solving. We give them an aesthetic language and the chance to see that everyone expresses themselves differently and uniquely; celebrating multiple perspectives, multiple solutions and endless possibilities. In class they work together as a community collaborating and sharing ideas. Art classes can improve concentration, motivation and confidence.

These immeasurable skills are dying every time cuts are made to art programs (and any of our classes that provide hands on skills and visual problem solving ). Innovative thinking allows us to make advances in technology and medicine, invent and grow as a society.

Come out and support what we teach !
