Fire update
246 Fire Update:
6/5/2026 4:25pm
Size: 7.4 acres
Cause: natural; lightning
Location: 5.7 miles Southwest of Lake George, Park County, South Park Ranger District
Containment: 50%
The USFS and multiple resources from other local agencies have stopped all forward progression of the 246 Fire and fire line has been established around the fires edge. The 246 Fire is currently 50% contained.
Indirect tactics were utilized for firefighter safety and to conduct a back burn which allows for more favorable control features such as roads, rock outcroppings, or open fields, to be used to secure the fires perimeter.
Firefighters will continue mop-up operations into the evening and throughout the weekend.
A reminder to the public that heavy fire traffic remains in the area and one should proceed with caution. Lingering smoke may still be visible for multiple days within the surrounding area due to smoldering fuels.
