The Fairmount Fire Department, supported by several mutual aid partners, Responded to a residential structure fire that required two separate responses at a residence just east of town.
On Monday, December 15, at approximately 3:46 PM, Fairmount Fire Department crews were initially dispatched for a smoke investigation. Upon arrival, Fairmount Police officers confirmed a house fire, leading Fairmount's Assistant Fire Chief to declare a working structure fire and assume Incident Command. Fairmount crews initiated an aggressive attack on the fire and, with the assistance of Mill Township, Gas City, and Mathews Fire Departments, successfully brought the initial incident under control. Crews remained on site for several hours to extinguish hot spots before returning to service.
Unfortunately, at 11:56 PM the same evening, crews were recalled to the residence for a rekindle. The structure was fully involved upon their second arrival. Firefighters worked through the early morning hours, finally bringing the fire under control at approximately 3:30 AM on Tuesday, December 16.
The structure suffered a complete collapse of the roof and walls, leading to numerous deep-seated hot spots. The site is currently being monitored to ensure the flare ups do not get out of control.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the affected family who tragically lost their home and several pets in this incident as we ask the community to do the same.
