Today was an awesome day in the City of Fairmont. This morning, we celebrated and cut the ribbon on the opening of Kibar Americas in our city. This is a monumental investment and a show of faith in our community. We can't wait to see what other developments this will bring our way.

This morning, we were honored to host Congressman Riley Moore at our Watson Fire Substation, where he presented us with a check representing the $1 million the City received as part of the 2026 Congressionally Directed Spending process.

The money will be used toward renovations at the Watson station, which hasn't received much in the way of updates since it was constructed in 1980.

Thank you, Congressman Moore, for helping secure these dollars for our firefighters!

Tonight, Fairmont City Council will meet for its regular meeting at 7 p.m. in the Public Safety Building on Quincy Street.

Council has several items of business to consider; a summary is provided below.

1. The first item for council’s consideration is a public hearing and subsequent vote on the establishment of a Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP) for the Fairmont Fire Department. The intention of this program is to allow retirement-age firefighters to defer retirement to allow for a smoother transition of institutional knowledge to the younger firefighters.
2. The second item is a public hearing and subsequent vote on a routine ordinance to allow the City to sell its surplus personal property (this is NOT the sale of real estate). This includes surplus vehicles, office supplies, and other miscellaneous items.
3. A public hearing and subsequent vote to establish an ordinance to align the City’s code with State Code. This ordinance allows first responders to require that bystanders stay 30-feet from first responders engaged in the lawful performance of their duties.
4. An introduction and first reading of a routine ordinance that updates the City’s code book with new ordinances implemented over the last several months.
5. An introduction and first reading of an ordinance establishing an agreement between the City of Fairmont and the Marion County Commission to allow the City to share its 2025 Byrne Justice Assistance Grant with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.
6. A resolution providing authority to execute a 60-day extension of the contract between the City of Fairmont and Republic Services.
7. A resolution rescheduling the regularly scheduled Council Meeting from Dec. 22, 2026 to Dec. 15, 2026 due to the December holidays.

Since our groundbreaking at Windmill Park, we've gotten a lot of questions about the budget for the project, the improvements happening at this park, and the status of the other park projects that are currently in the works.

To help answer some of these questions, we've created a landing page on our website that we will work to keep updated as we continue to move forward on these investments.

Additionally, on the subpage about Windmill Park, we've published the full bid tabulation sheet for the project, showing the other bids we received on the job and the budget breakdown for all the pieces of the project.

The work is finally finished on the Rotary Club of Fairmont Mini Park and we're ready to cut the ribbon! Join us on September 16th at 1 p.m. at the Rotary Club of Fairmont Mini Park (formerly the Morgantown Avenue Mini Park) as we celebrate this investment.
