Kinship of Martin County

Kinship of Martin County Kinship is a mentoring program that serves all of Martin County, MN. Fairmont Area Kinship began as a Healthy Youth initiative in 1998.

We positively impact the lives of our youth by establishing quality relationships with caring volunteers to promote stability, support, and friendship. FAK became incorporated in December of 1999 and the first match was made in January of 2001. Since then, the lives of over 110 children have been touched through Kinship mentoring. Fairmont Area Kinship is grateful to St. John's UCC for the generou

s donation of use of the parish house for office space and a place for program participants to call home.

While it is true that we try to do what we can to spread the story of youth mentoring, we also only know so many people within our circles. That’s where you come in.

Consider inviting us to speak to your group about mentoring. It gives us a chance to tell others more about what mentoring is, what it isn’t, and why it’s so important. Sharing our story far and wide gives us the best chance of finding mentors for our waiting youth.

Imagine it’s March 2027.

You look back on the last year and realize you didn’t just fill your calendar — you invested in someone.

You showed up.
You built trust.
You became a safe adult in a young person’s life.

Mentoring doesn’t require a major life overhaul. It requires intention and follow-through.

If you’re ready to do something that matters long after March is over, we’d love to talk with you.
Because a steady relationship can change everything.

March is full of talk about luck.

But when it comes to kids, luck isn’t a strategy. Connection is.

Research is clear: young people who have consistent, caring adults in their lives are more confident, more resilient, and more likely to thrive.

Those adults don’t have to be superheroes. They just have to be willing to commit. Mentoring through Kinship is supported and local. Right now, there are youth in our community who are ready to be matched.

If you’ve been looking for a meaningful way to invest where you live…

This time of year, many of us start clearing out closets and garages.

But what if we also viewed this process as making space for something that matters?

Mentoring doesn’t require a dramatic life shift. It’s a few intentional hours each month. A commitment to show up. A willingness to listen. In return, you build something lasting — trust, confidence, connection.

There are youth in Martin County waiting for a consistent adult in their corner. If you can find just a little extra room in your schedule — and in your life — we’d love to talk with you.

March is a month of transition.
Longer days.
More light.

The feeling that something new is possible.

For many youth in our community, change is happening too — new schedules, shifting family dynamics, big emotions, big questions.

What makes change manageable isn’t luck. It’s stability.
A mentor doesn’t stop life from changing.
They simply make sure a young person doesn’t navigate it alone.

If you’ve been looking for a meaningful way to step into someone’s life this year, mentoring through Kinship of Martin County might be it.

Reach out today.

We might not have had enough snow to go snowmobiling, but we still had fun at Cedar Creek Park this past weekend. Between board games, Mario Kart, and a few brave minutes outside in the cold playing football, we had a blast!

We would really love to end the year at Kinship with a few more matches!

Truthfully, making matches during the holiday season is one of my favorite things to do because mentoring really is such a gift. Our waiting list is currently at capacity, and making some new matches in the next couple months would enable us to bring in new youth!

If you think you (or someone you know!) might make a really great mentor, please reach out. We’d love to have a conversation with you - even if you’re just curious about what that would mean.
