🚨 Final Alarm – Lieutenant Joy 🚨

December 18, 2025, we officially recognized the retirement of Lieutenant Joy after more than 26 years of dedicated service to the City of Fairlawn.

Lieutenant Joy began his career on April 10, 1999, serving as a part-time firefighter, full-time firefighter, and later being promoted to Lieutenant in 2006. From 2009 through the remainder of his career, he served as a Shift Lieutenant—providing steady leadership, mentorship, and command presence to both the members he supervised and the citizens we proudly serve.

This video includes Lieutenant Joy’s Final Alarm, a tradition honoring a firefighter’s final response and a career dedicated to service.

On behalf of the Fairlawn Fire Department, the City of Fairlawn, and the community we serve—thank you, Lieutenant Joy, for your commitment, leadership, and sacrifice.

Lieutenant Joy, you are cleared to return home.

Fairlawn, Ohio — The Fairlawn Fire Department is proud to announce the receipt of two personal SEEK Thermal Imagers generously donated by David Knott and the Valor Freedom and Respect (VFR) Foundation. This contribution is part of a broader initiative led by Knott, who has provided more than 40 thermal imagers to fire departments across Northeast Ohio through a grant program he established.
Thermal imagers are an essential tool for modern firefighting, allowing first responders to locate victims and hazards in low-visibility environments by detecting heat signatures. These devices significantly enhance search-and-rescue effectiveness and increase firefighter safety during emergency operations.
“We are extremely grateful for this generous donation,” said the Fairlawn Fire Department. “The VFR Foundation’s support directly enhances our ability to protect the community and ensure the safety of our firefighters.”
The Valor Freedom and Respect Foundation is committed to supporting First Responders, Veterans, Military service members, K-9s, and their families by providing best-in-class programs, resources, and technologies. Their mission focuses strongly on mental health and wellness, including access to wellness evaluations, therapy services, counseling for depression and anxiety, and other vital support programs that empower our nation’s heroes to stay connected, process trauma, and heal.
The Fairlawn Fire Department extends its sincere appreciation to David Knott and the VFR Foundation for their dedication to public safety and their continued support of first responders throughout the region.

🚑 Fairlawn Fire Department – New Ambulance In Service

The Fairlawn Fire Department is proud to announce that our new ambulance—featuring a Lifeline box on a Freightliner chassis—is officially in service. Fairlawn Medic 2 went into service on November 21, 2025, at 2:00 PM, and is ready to serve our community.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the residents of Fairlawn, City Council, and the Mayor for their ongoing support. We also thank the dedicated members of the Service Department, Fire Department, the Lifeline team, and Pfund Superior for their hard work in planning, building, and preparing this unit for service.

This investment strengthens our commitment to providing exceptional emergency medical care to our community.

No matter how many years pass, may we always remember all those who were affected.
