First Alarm Assignment
Incident: #26-1737
Palace Pizza
Structure Fire
May 21, 2026
Time: 4:51 A.M.

On the above date and time this department received a dispatch from Holbrook Regional
Communications for a commercial fire alarm activation at 142 Huttleston Ave., Palace Pizza.
Engine 4 and Ladder 1 responded to the alarm.

Upon arrival, crews encountered smoke coming
from the structure and requested an additional tone to bring our second due engine to the scene and recall off-duty personnel. Chief Correia requested a working fire assignment to bring in mutual aid companies to the scene from New Bedford Fire and Mattapoisett Fire. Acushnet Fire responded to cover the station. The fire was extinguished within approximately fifteen minutes of the initial fire attack. The cause is under investigation at this time and is not considered suspicious.

The building inspector and electrical inspector were also requested to the scene. No injuries were reported. Thank you to our mutual aid partners for assisting us this morning.

Our condolences to MSP, Trooper Trainor’s colleagues, brothers and sisters in blue, and his family.

The Massachusetts State Police announce the line-of-duty death of Trooper Kevin Trainor, 30, who was senselessly killed this morning by a wrong-way driver.

At the conclusion of his public safety detail shortly before 2 a.m., Trooper Trainor began his commute home. Minutes later, 911 received a call reporting a wrong-way driver traveling South on Route 1 North in Lynnfield. Several dedicated Troopers converged on the area and located the vehicle traveling the wrong way at 2:03 a.m. One minute later, at 2:04 a.m., the vehicle collided with Trooper Trainor’s cruiser.

While nothing will ever repair the pain we feel today, we make a solemn promise to never forget Trooper Trainor and his service to the Commonwealth. Kevin served as a Corrections Officer in Essex County before joining the State Police as a member of the 88th Recruit Training Troop. In his decorated career, he mentored new Troopers as a Field Training Officer or “Trooper Coach,” earned a place on the prestigious Troop Community Action Team, set the standard for professionalism, and patrolled our roads with a singular focus: keeping the people of this Commonwealth safe.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Trooper Trainor’s classmates have shared stories of his genuine care and concern for others. As one person put it, “he was the guy you wanted as your backup.”

Colonel Noble said in his remarks this afternoon, “Make no mistake: Trooper Trainor saved lives this morning. His courage – his commitment to serve the citizens of the Commonwealth and put his life on the line – prevented an even greater tragedy. He will be remembered as a hero.”

We deeply appreciate the outpouring of support from our Governor, the Secretary of Public Safety, and friends in Massachusetts and across the country. We will remember and honor this extraordinary man, son, fiancée, and friend who gave his life for others.

First Alarm Assignment
Structure Fire
4 Dover St.
Incident # 26-1486
April 29, 2026
Time: 3:30 P.M

On the above date and time Holbrook Regional Communications Center dispatched this department for a reported porch fire at the listed address. Multiple 911 calls were received indicating that the fire was extending into the residence. Engine 2, Ladder 1, Chief 1, Chief 2 and Car 3 responded.

An off-duty Fairhaven Firefighter/Paramedic arrived and indicated via radio that a working fire assignment would need to be generated to bring in additional resources. Engine 2 arrived to find the second-floor porch fully involved and already extended into the second-floor apartment, attic space and arcing service wires from the utility pole. The occupants on the second floor were able to escape on their own prior to our arrival and a primary search was conducted on the first and second floors to confirm. One of two pets were removed from the building in the initial phase of the incident and the first-floor resident located their other pet safely after the home was determined safe to enter.

The 1st Alarm Assignment brought Mattapoisett and New Bedford Fire Departments to the scene and Acushnet to the station for coverage. Fairhaven Engine 4 staffing was committed to a medical call at the time and responded to the scene with Medic 1 on a delay. The main body of fire was extinguished and crews worked to ventilate the smoke and overhaul extensively. Heat damage was caused to both structures on either side of the fire building.

There were no injuries reported and the American Red Cross was brought in to assist the displaced residents.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and is not considered suspicious.

Thank you again to the aforementioned mutual aid partners as well as Fairhaven Police, Fairhaven EMA, and the Providence Canteen.

Fist Alarm Assignment
Structure Fire
86 Bridge St.
Incident # 26-1470
April 28, 2026
Time: 1:35 P.M

On the above date and time Holbrook Regional Communications Center dispatched this department for a reported porch fire at the listed address. While companies were responding, Fairhaven Police reported that there were flames showing. Group 4 is assigned to duty today. Engine 2, Engine 4, Ladder 1, Car 1, Car 2, and Car 3 responded and a box was struck to recall off duty personnel. New Bedford Fire Dept, Mattapoisett Fire Dept. responded to the scene for the working fire assignment and Acushnet Fire Dept. covered our station.

The building is a 2-story wood frame structure with 8 apartments equipped with an automatic sprinkler system which did not activate. The fire, which began on the exterior of the structure, had spread across the main means of egress and began to extend into the interior attic space. A primary search was conducted and all occupants had evacuated or were not currently home.

The fire was suppressed within the first several minutes. Overhaul conducted in the attic space revealed that the fire had extended approximately 2-3 feet on the underside of the roof, the surface of the insulation and duct work.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by this department. One resident had been displaced at the time this release.

Both of our Engines and Ladder were able to respond due to no other emergencies requiring our current staffing levels.

We would like to acknowledge Fairhaven Police, Fairhaven EMA and our mutual aid partners; New Bedford Fire Dept., Acushnet Fire Dept., Mattapoisett Fire Dept. Additionally, we would like to thank Mattapoisett Police Dept. for providing an ambulance for an emergency that occurred separately from this incident.
