From GFL: trash will be collected today December 29th. Please be patient as trash collection crews navigate the current weather conditions. Because of white out conditions GFL will be back out tomorrow December 30th for recycling. Thank you for your understanding.

We wanted to take this opportunity to address the word being spread that the Township parking lot is open for any use because it is "public property". The Township asked our attorneys to explain;

"Township's property is not "public property" in the sense that anyone in the public can do whatever they want on it. Yes, it is "public property," but it is not open for public use unless the township Board has so directed. It is owned and controlled by the Township Board, and we have the full authority to regulate its use the same as any other property owner. In the same way that the Township hall is not open 24/7, and public can't just wander in and rifle through drawers."

"The same principles apply at all levels of government. Courts have restricted parking lots for staff only, the State of Michigan has parking lots attached to its buildings which are gated and require a card for entry, we lock the door to the Hall after business hours to prevent entry."

With that being said; permission was never sought out for long-term/overnight parking by the Village of Fairgrove. The Township has never allowed overnight parking without permission, which is usually only granted in the case of mechanical emergencies. It has come to our attention that vehicles continue to park for extended periods of time in our lot, even with the construction issue cleared. As per Township procedure, overnight or extended parking must be cleared by the Township.

Thank you for your cooperation,
Fairgrove Township Board of Trustees

Traffic Control Update – Township Parking Lot

Fairgrove Township Residents: Please be advised of recent improvements implemented in the Township parking lot to ensure public safety and better traffic flow:

One-Way Traffic Area: The parking lot immediately around the Township Hall is one-way, entering from Main Street to the east and exiting onto Center Street to the south. All vehicles must enter from the east entrance and exit via the south exit. Please follow posted signage and arrows. The overflow parking lot to the west of the Hall may be accessed via Center Street. A map of the access points is below. Please do not access the ATM for drive up service by pulling into the overflow lot.

Restricted Areas: Barricades have been placed in specific areas to prevent unauthorized access and to ensure the safe flow of traffic.

Caution – Sinkhole Alert: A sinkhole has been identified within the parking lot near the Township Hall. It has been clearly flagged and we ask that all pedestrians and drivers avoid the area, as it may pose a safety risk.

Any questions or concerns can be emailed to [email protected] or brought to the Township Board. Meetings are the 3rd Monday of every month.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

Update: We have been heavily monitoring our parking lot and want to thank drivers for doing their best to avoid driving by the sink whole. We have had to reinforce our barrier around the sink hole. We did observe parents allowing their children to stomp on the edges of the sink hole. This is incredibly dangerous. Please do not walk up to the area.

Important Hall information. There is a sink hole in the Township parking lot. The ATM is open, but we ask that you do not drive up to it, if possible. You are more then welcome to walk up and use the atm, please be cautious. The hole is marked. Please avoid that area.

I will have a full update in a few hours.

Attention Residents: the dumpster at the Village/Fire Department is for their use only. Anyone caught dumping into the dumpster without permission will be visited by Akron Police. We recently had someone dump a freezer of rotting food into the dumpster. GFL does not take appliances that have not be properly prepared for pickup, and full of rotting food. The Village has been forced to clean up the mess. This is completely unacceptable.
The cemetery dumpster is for cemetery items only.

Residents may put out 1 large item a week along with your normal household trash. No building/demo materials, not lawn clippings/bags. Appliances must have freon removed and stickered by removal company for verification, doors and shelves removed. If you have garage sale extras or cleaning out a garage or house, please get a dumpster. Loose trash also needs to be bagged. GFL will not pickup your yard if stuff blows around or falls out.

Concerns can be addressed to the Township Clerk at [email protected]

05/26/2025

A quick reminder that trash/recycling will take place Tuesday, May 27th due to the holiday falling on a Monday.

The Township also asks that you keep your children from riding bikes on the handicap ramp and steps of the hall. There were a few earlier today using them as a bike jump. We don't want someone to be injured by improper use.
