#027Weather Spotting all coverage area

Last year we ended April with a total of 13 calls. That put us at 42 total calls for the year. This year we ended the month on call number 29. This puts us 13 calls behind last year.

Training
For the month of April members trained on vehicle extrication.

What extrication involves, firefighters are trained to:
• Stabilize the scene (secure vehicles, control hazards like fire or fuel leaks)
• Assess the victim(s)
• Create access using specialized tools
• Remove the victim safely while minimizing further injury
• Hydraulic rescue tools (often called “Jaws of Life”)
• Cutters: slice through metal
• Spreaders: pry doors open
• Rams: push apart crushed sections
• Glass management tools to safely break or remove windows
• Stabilization equipment like cribbing and struts
Types of extrication:
• Rapid extrication: done quickly when there’s immediate danger (fire, unstable vehicle)
• Controlled extrication: slower, more precise, used when the patient is stable
• Disentanglement: removing debris or vehicle parts from around the victim
Key priorities:
• Rescuer safety
• Patient stabilization (medical care begins immediately)
• Preventing further injury, especially to the spine
• Efficient removal and transfer to EMS
Where you might see extrication:
1. Car, truck, and motorcycle accidents
2. Industrial or farm equipment incidents
3. Collapsed structures

🔥Fire spread risks are back for today - Tuesday May 5th.

Low humidity values between 20-30% and gusty winds to 30mph will support the rapid spread of fire today across northern lower and portions of central/southeast lower Michigan. Burning is not recommended. We saw numerous fires across the state yesterday as a result of identical conditions, so please use caution, check local restrictions, and dispose of any ci******es properly.

We will no longer be allowing open burning until we receive some rain. We are very dry on top of the ground and this wind and sunshine is making fire conditions very favorable! We will update soon as conditions change.

Burn permits as of now are suspended.
